Whose to say Weber was the one holding that pairing up and not Suter? I'm interested to see how Weber does without Suter as well.

That's possible. I won't rule it out. But at least with Weber there are very obvious aspects of his game you can point to as to why he'd be successful in any situation — booming slapshot giving huge power play advantage and elite size, strength and physicality.
As a guy who watched Lidstrom play 20 magnificent seasons without being flashy or physical, I obviously have respect for Suter's arguably similar style. The only thing I was trying to articulate earlier was that when signing a THIRTEEN YEAR contract at huge money, there are inherent risks. For a team like Minnesota that's building up from a lower starting point than the Red Wings, that risk makes more sense to take.

Smooth Criminal is only claiming to know these people, who says they are actually real? I don't think they are. Also, Suter > Weber and this year will prove it.

Every single fan base everywhere for every sport thinks too highly and positively of their team. The most vocal people are usually the most ill-informed. It's like listening to any sports talk radio station. The only people who feel compelled enough to call in to be heard are the outliers and the ones with the most extreme opinions — They don't proportionally represent the degree of intelligence of a fan base.
Trust me, if you guys followed me on Twitter, you'd see how many idiots I've have to combat with their senseless line of thinking about the Wings in the last five days. But there are stupid, stupid people everywhere.

Pyatt to the Rangers is a decent move. Another player hitting the New York trifecta. Might not be Prust, but solid enough.

Reading Shero's transcript of his press conference, he said that he didn't expect to sign Parise and it was Minnesota-NJ the whole time. Seemed like the media hyped it up more than the actual truth.
I do wonder what his other plans are. He said that they will make a significant move. Maybe for a winger? Defenseman? I don't know.

Man, what a ******* day. Over beers last month, a buddy of mine was talking about how he thought we may be able to land Suter and Parise. I could not have been more emphatic in saying I thought there was just no way. Fletcher has been a godsend so far, other than that miserable Leddy-Barker/Johnsson deal he made.

Well, we'll still have Kyle Quincey as a Stuart substitute ..... I don't mean that in a positive way.

true, but i guess he hasn't pissed me off for the last 3+ years by turning the puck over at every single inopportune moment. quincey will probably be my new hudler (innocuous at first, rage inducing later).

I think some people are forgetting about some of the other solid players the Wild have like Bouchard, Brodziak, Cullen and Clutterbuck. It's not like the rest of the cupboard is completely bare.

As currently constructed, is this even a playoff team considering the improvements of all the teams (CGY, DAL, MIN, EDM, COL) that didn't make the playoffs? That's a legitimate question given that the Wings' offseason losses (Lidstrom, Stuart, Hudler) greatly outweigh the current additions.
Franzen - Datsyuk - Bertuzzi
Filppula - Zetterberg - Samuelsson
Cleary - Helm - Nyqvist
Miller - Abdelkader - Tootoo
(Brunner, Eaves, Mursak, Emmerton)
Kronwall - White
Ericsson - Quincey
Smith - Kindl
Howard - Gustavsson
Adding Semin and Carle wouldn't even do anything but bring it back to par from last season's 1st round exit and sixth-seeded finish.

Smith playing below Ericsson and Quincey is just stupid.

How much do you think Sullivan can do for Phoenix, Hines?

It's just a guess. Smith will get as much ice time as his play warrants, obviously.

If healthy, probably around what he did in Pittsburgh. I'm surprised the Pens didn't sign him. He was great on the PP and had late chemistry with Sid. Won't put up Whitney numbers, but I could see him putting up very similar as he did past season.

Very true. Especially guys like Brodziak/Clutterbuck, who will now be asked to carry less of the load and hopefully become even more effective in less ice time. You never really know until the games start, though. Another huge positive in this is that the Wild's prospect stable will be able to ease into a role as well

Out of Brodin, Coyle, Granlund and Phillips, who do you think will be on the roster Day 1?

100% - Granlund
50% - Coyle, Brodin
0% - Phillips
Granlund is a stone-cold lock to make the NHL club. Phillips has a lot of promise, but he's got work to do. Establishing himself without Huberdeau/Coyle is a task in itself, but he needs to improve his skating before he can play in the NHL
I think Coyle making the club would be dependent on how other players perform in camp, what kind of shape they are in, etc. My only worry with Brodin is durability. He's so frail that I am afraid he wouldn't be able to last without adding some muscle (which will happen).
Interestingly enough, I like Brodin the best out of any of the Wild's prospects currently. He plays with so much poise and is a wonderful skater. Should be a very, very good NHL player.
