I thought I'd be unique coming in here to post Faulk, but he was mentioned early and often. Good to know others like him as much as I do.

Dickerson or Campbell would be my choices for the Niners. Possibly Emmitt Smith.

Earl Campbell is, and most likely, always will be my favorite RB. I'd probably go with him or Barry Sanders. Sanders was the best RB I've ever seen.
I also think the world of Adrian Peterson and LaDainian Tomlinson.
But the first name I thought of when I read this topic was Eric Dickerson. That may be because he (probably) had the best rookie season of any RB.

assuming the thought is that you have him as a rookie to have his full career in your team, in that case it would be marshall faulk, just because he is taylormade for the saints offense

The Saints would be pretty sick with Faulk. He'd be what they had hoped Bush would be.

I don't really consider Emmitt Smith old skool, but I guess it depends how old you are.

Barry Sanders was amazing -- possibly the best pure runner in NFL history, and certainly the shiftiest.
Lindy Infante wanted to draft him over Tony Mandarich in the '89 draft, but he was overruled by the GM (Infante fell in love with him after he ran 4.39, which was pretty rare in '89). As a Packer fan, I can't complain about the past 20 years, but I can't help but wonder "what if?"
Barry was good. I can spend hours watching his highlights.

Imagine if Steven Jackson played on a good team with a good o-line ? Look what he does on a terrible team with a terrible line.
