I'd take Josh Gordon in the 4th I think. But thats me...I feel like people in the organization feel like we already have that piece of clay in Danny Coale.

Ick no thanks on Gordan.

+Great Measureables
-Drug arrest (kicked off team at Baylor) *Note* Teams don't normally expel their top WR for a single drug issue. So I let this one carry a lot more weight than most single incidents.
-Signs on with Utah and then bolts for the NFL for "financial reasons".

We need Coale/Beasley/Hakim to own the slot role this year. The draft next year is loaded at our needs and I'm not at all sold that Gordan even beats out our current depth at WR.

If we're talking supp. draft I'd keep an eye on Larry Lumpkin. He's not at all meshing with our culture (former coach said he had skipped practice or missed a meeting once a week) but he has all the measureables and shows that plus instinct.

If his numbers hold true at his pro-day tomorrow I would love to see him available as a 7th or priority undrafted (where he is currently projected).

4.57 - 40
30 bench reps
36" vertical

We were listed along with the Broncos as the only two teams that checked into him with Alabama St. but we are currently not listed as "interested in his pro-day workout".

I don't know where I read this, so I cannot quote the source. The gist was that we shouldn't be worrying so much about our 3rd receiver as our slot guy. Because Miles played in the slot for a majority of the snaps last year. Our 3rd WR doesn't have to be cut in the slot mold.

Exactly. Miles is actually our best slot guy. I am really hoping Coale/Beasley come into their own during camp and seize the job because it means more of Miles playing outside. He's fully able to defeat press coverage and if you want to minimize the abuse he'd take he's VERY effective in the flanker role.

My second comment was really the damning one from my perspective. I honestly don't think Gordan's skillset is any greater than say Andre Holmes. From my vantage point we have three guys competing solely for outside WR positions, five competing solely for slot, and two players capable of both. Keep in mind I'm talking about at this point in time.

Outside Only: Dez, Holmes, Radway
Inside Only: Coale, Harris, Beasley, Hakim, Benford
Both: Miles, Ogletree

Gordon DOES fit what we target for our outside receivers (he's pretty much the same build/speed as both Holmes and Radway) the question that needs to be asked is even if we carry SIX WRs would he make the roster?

Miles and Dez are locks. (2)
Coale might save the 'Boys a slot early and be on PUP and join the team mid-season. I don't think he's getting released without getting a camp. (1?)

So far you have 1 definite outside, 1 injured/slot, 1 both. The rest?

JJ stated that Holmes has the inside track going into camp for the 3rd WR slot (meaning we'll kick Miles inside in 3WR sets. I think unless he has a horrendous camp he's a lock. (4)

Harris has recently noted by JG as "He is looking leaner, and I think that's an important thing for him" and placed him firmly in the mix for the slot role. I think he's competing with Beasley and that special teams will heavily come into play. (4.5)

Radway was the camp darling last year and JG admitted he wouldn't of cut him during final cuts if he hadn't of broken his leg in the last preseason game. I don't think he's fully recovered from his broken leg and think he'll slide onto the PS again.

Beasley was the star of mini-camps and was repeatedly raved for his exceptional route-running and the the fact he didn't drop a single pass. I think he's competing with Harris and that special teams will heavily come into play. HOWEVER if he plays like he did during mini-camps we won't be cutting him. (5.0) or (6)

Hakim struggled during camp and dropped a number of passes however he's 6'0 and runs a 4.29 so he's going to get a shot. I think he's destined to land on the practice squad. Immensely gifted athletically but has a lot of work to do with his route running and hands. Hope to stash him on the PS but I think he'll be signed somewhere as a 5th or 6th WR for KR/PR duties.

Benford is also touted as a great route runner and has the build of a RB rather than a WR. He's solid in the deep speed department (4.48) and showed well during mini-camps. Long-shot to start with and I think he'll lose the numbers game. I have a feeling he'll be stashed on the PS.

So the way my eyes see it :)

1) Dez
2) Miles
3) Holmes
4) Harris
5) Beasley
PUP) Coale

I just don't buy that he would be a lock to make the team. If we were talking about someone fitting Garrett's mold (lunch-pale to work/intensely hard worker/team captain/upstanding citizen) I would be less hesitant but he doesn't fit the RKG mold.

From Timmy Mac at ESPNDallas:

-This is the year that Tony Romo is expected to take the final step to winning it all.

No, not the Super Bowl. We’re talking about the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.

Romo has finished second in the Lake Tahoe tournament the last three years and is the favorite this year. Harrah’s Sportsbook has put 5-2 odds on Romo winning next weekend’s event.

Of course, any mention of Romo playing in an offseason golf event is certain to elicit reactions complaining about him not being focused enough on football. Never mind that he’s one of six active starting quarterbacks scheduled to play in the tournament, a group that includes MVP Aaron Rodgers (50-1 odds).

Plus, it’s a pretty safe bet that Romo will get in a throwing session or two over the weekend. His two favorite receivers – Jason Witten (30-1) and Miles Austin (40-1) – are also scheduled to play in the tournament the weekend before reporting to training camp.

Rams released Jason Brown (PFF's 5th rated Center in 2010) in a cost cutting move.

Quote:
He gets off the ball with some decent initial quickness. One place he will struggle is when he has a guy on his shoulder and he has to reach or make a cut off block. His foot doesn’t gain any ground or direction and he will be late on the block, thus giving up his outside. This doesn’t happen very often though. He is a really big player (320lbs) that is surprisingly quick on his feet. He does a good job at getting to the next level and reads stunts and blitzes well. He has good upper body strength but could use a little bit more in his legs.
Wonder how serious we are about putting Big Mac in at center. Costa made strides during the year but I still wouldn't rate him any higher than "serviceable" even when he was at his best. I don't want anymore of this:

Oh Dez...

Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was recently arrested in DeSoto on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, according to KDFW.
The station reported that police responded to a family violence call on Saturday night and that Bryant was charged with a misdemeanor for assaulting a female family member.
Bryant confirmed to WFAA-TV that there had been an incident, but he declined to go into detail.
"I'm good, I'm good," he told WFAA.

Meh. Domestic violence charge with no injuries reported (no hospital visit) on a female family member. 99.9% sure this never makes it to court and goes away completely.

Sucks for Dez though because he'll never shake the inaccurate "bad boy" label.

Yeah, there's nothing inaccurate about that label. He just needs to get his head out of his ass and realize that he should be walking on egg shells.

He pushed his crackhead mom. He simply needs to put himself in better situations. Now all the hard work he has put in this off-season will be marred now by this situation. The best thing he can do is to keep working and let his play on the field overshadow this incident.

What I was saying Pocket is Dez forgot his cleats and he was labeled as "not caring". He missed a year of college football because he was a "Bad guy". He was a bad guy for racking up a jewelry tab before actually making the money (see 95% of incoming rookies). Hell he was a bad guy for wearing his pants too low as well.

He's an immature kid that now gets the Cincy Bengals treatment because he pushed his crackhead mother.

BSPN loves its storylines so be fully prepared for the questions "is he worth the hassle" etc.

Tweet from OKC sportscaster....It's becoming clear Mike Gundy was being kind when he called Dez Bryant a "knucklehead." Now his troubled mom claims "he tried to kill me."

He needs to grow the F'up!

Keep in mind his mother was/is a crackhead prostitute. That followed him to college to ensure a cash flow.

Not saying Dez is at all justified for pushing his mother and/or hitting her with his hat (LOL) but this isn't a normal circumstance either. 99% sure the case will be dismissed or never taken to court.

I think you're confusing the Dez fan club with the Dallas fan club. We want him to do well for the sake of the team. Think we would care about him if he wasn't a Cowboys? Heck no. His talent is undeniable...that much is protectable. His character is crazy, and while that's not protectable... it doesn't make him a bad player.

Not sure what you want out of this. For him to be a bust?

He is getting what he wants out of this right now. He enjoys it for some reason. I was coming to make a comment yesterday, and I knew exactly who would be fired up in this thread, and I saw the last post by Bob right away lol. Called it before even jumping into the thread. I'm pretty sure he was honestly excited to hear the news.

He looked good the 9 times he was in the endzone last year.

Only 3 WRs beat him at it. Laurent Robinson, Jordy Nelson and Calvin Johnson. Not too shabby for a "loser who only looks good in tights".

If not Dez, it would have been some other receiver. Austin would have doubled his numbers ....

Dez is nothing special. Well, head case maybe.

You're suggesting that our WR production is simply a result of the system. Roy E. Williams suggests otherwise.
