He's obligated, as I'm assuming he knew what he was getting into. I'm just wondering where exactly this came from...were there rumors? I fell asleep on the NHL offseason a week ago.

I imagine Philly kept it quiet so as not to be beaten to the punch by another team.
Nashville is gonna match. This is why most everyone assumed no one would sign him to an offer sheet — because it'd eliminate the possibility that Weber gets to unrestricted free agency or is traded. This was probably the only way he'd stay in Nashville, IMO.

NASH was apparently in the process of trying to trade him. I don't think its so certain it gets matched. I mean you are trying to trade the guy and then all of a sudden decide to have him around for 14 years 100 mil +. He might not even want to be in NASH anymore either.

So if he ends up in Philly, how long until they trade him to the Kings?

But Philly is going to have all low-1sts as compensation, things Nashville treats as equal to Paul Gaustad.

They were trying to trade him because he wouldn't agree to re-sign yet. But if Nashville matches, then he's signed for 14 years with them. The Preds can afford it. They were offering Suter nearly $100 million, this is no different.
Weber signed the offer sheet because it guaranteed he'd get big money now, either from the Preds or from his apparent second choice, Philly.
Don't think I'm understanding the RFA offer sheet process incorrectly, am I?

I think you have it right. I think they match. They have to match. They don't have anyone in the pipeline to at least put up respectable numbers replacing him. They will get two firsts, a second, and a third though depending on his cap hit.

The Pens need to lock up Kris Letang before they go after another high priced defensemen.

There is no way the Preds don't match this offer. They couldnt possibly afford to lose Suter and Shea in the same off-season. If Pronger and Weber were playing together though

Chris Pronger is still alive and not in a concussion-induced coma?

I wonder if Weber signed the offer sheet knowing he was going to get paid either way. He has to understand that there is an outcome where he remains in Nashville. The Predators can absolutely not afford to lose him. They are still a very strong team even without Suter. I can't see this turning into a Nash situation down the road since Nashville is so much better than Columbus.

If the offer is really 110M over 14 years like reported, the compensation would actually be 4 first round picks. It's something to consider.
But yeah, you don't want to lose your two top-10 d-men when you're paying a goaltender 7M per year.

Eh, If the team wasn't Philly then sure. Could be kind of like a Kessel situation if it was a team like the Leafs who made the offer (although that has probably turned out to be a win-win trade)

Yes, because Philadelphia could never, ever **** up a season and end up with the second overall pick.

Why the hell do all of the best players that were on the trade block need to play in the Central Division? haha
The Wings had no chance on Weber or Nash simply because of it.

5-year contract for Oshie. Seems like they get along just fine.

17.6/4 for Versteeg. Now is Dineen legit enough to keep them afloat or are they just going to suck balls this year? I guess there's still a pretty big potential move with them that's yet to be seen.
