They are going to be paying it off over 4 years I believe so there shouldn't be any issues with tuition hikes or losing other sports or anything.

I'm sure tuition will go up enough by itself over the next few years. Seems like mine went up every year I was at osu.

I'd be more worried about your degree being tainted due to all of this.
It's stupid, but people are petty. There are going to be plenty of employers that won't want to interview PSU grads, especially freshouts.

No way. There's no way this effects PSU grads like that.
There's a better chance of PSU winning the national championship this year than that happening.

I could see some people viewing Penn State grads differently. Thousands of students were rioting in the street after Paterno was fired. Ever after more and more evidence came out the Paterno was part of the cover up, many fans were still blindly supporting him and almost worshipping his statue.
If I were interviewing a Penn State grad, I would like to know what they think about this whole situation because I would not want to hire one of the recent graduates who was mourning the removal of the Paterno statue. I'm just not sure if that is something you'd be allowed to ask in an interview.

So all bowl revenues split by 12 still, with PSU's share going to charities? I think that's an acceptable punishment and actually glad the conference came up with it. Otherwise, the bowl revenues basically pay for their fine.
Overall, while the punishment is harsh, I think it's just right for the crime. It's not a death penalty that will take PSU 20 years to recover from, but it punishes them for a short period while they can "clean up" everything. It will be interesting to see the transfers and current commits, and where they end up...

I'm not so sure. Normally I battle on the side of logic, but people are very often illogical and will let emotion and perception affect their judgment, whether it be conscious or subconscious.

I have zero worries about this affecting my degree's perception.
Mainly bc I'm still active duty and will be for the next ten years.
I won't be putting in a resume (how do you use accent marks?) until after I'm out.
That's a good chunk of time... so no, I'm not worried.

It also depends what your degree is in and where you want to eventually settle to get your job. In many business and IT fields, if you are looking to stay in the same general area (Pittsburgh, Philly, NYC, DC, etc), you are just as likely to be interviewed by a fellow Penn State grad as you are any other school.

Reasonable people won't care at all of someone graduated from Penn State. Unless they act like Franco Harris and his ridiculous statements would be enough to get someone fired if theyre in the public image like Franco lost his position with the casino.

Certainly seems reasonable to ask them how they felt about the situation to ensure they aren't in favor of child rape.

I've been working for 8 years now, and I've done countless interviews, being the interviewee and the interviewer, and I cannot possibly imagine anyone having that kind of prejudice in the decision making process.
If they even dare mention something so stupid, they probably would never be a part of the interview team ever again.

Yeah this should not affect and PSU grad unless they put their foot in their mouth during the interview.

Never underestimate the power of idol worship. Joe Pa was a god in that small town. Their reactions to all of this certainly supports that

I interviewed for my current job in 2009, about two months before Michael Vick was supposed to be released from prison. A girl who also got the job went to Virginia Tech and at the time lived in Leavenworth, Kansas (where Michel Vick was in prison). She was asked during the interview about the whole dogfighting thing. So it happens. Should this situation affect the job prospects of Penn State graduates? No, but to say it won't is naive.

That's one of the dumbest rationalizations I've ever heard. To any PSU grads out there, if anyone asks a question like this, seriously, get up and leave. Any moron who would ask that question is not someone you want to entrust your livelihood to on a daily basis. Not to mention they open themselves up to a multitude of legal questions just by posing it in an interview process.
With that said, I could absolutely see someone saying something along the lines of...
I see you're a graduate of Penn State. If you were in their position, what course of action would you have taken and how do you think it would have affected the outcome of the scandal?
If it's more of, hey you're a PSU grad, do you think it's right to rape little boys?...get out of there. That interviewer is dangerously stupid.
