Anyway, I was planning on being done with all things mafia after this game until next offseason, but you fools have gone and given me an idea.
Give me a slot in one of these upcoming weeks and I'll give you want you want: A guaranteed random game with extremely limited town power roles.
Looking at you guys Caddy, Gonzo...put up or shut up with those deductive skills you've been itching to show off.

Alright... since Grizz didn't explain it all that well. Anyone who thinks its unfair that we occasionally tweak some of the roles has benefited from it one way or another. Not to mention we do it because of you guys.
We build these games to be fun and balanced but if the Town is all "elite" players and the Mafia are new guys or inactives the game is not going to function.
In my games I always randomize first. Depending on the layout at that point I tweak. People in the last couple games that have been constant inactives or always late on getting their action in might get swapped out of a power role. I might then slot in an ATL or a Bulldogs who doesn't play when they are a townie.
Other times there might be a situation where JBond comes up mafia... but since JBond is the early game nightly local hangout EVERY SINGLE GAME I might make him the Godfather. (Which is exactly what happened in DDN)
There are other times where I have delayed opening games so that maybe one of the Europeans or the Aussies don't instantly get outed as having a power role.
The fact is again we do this because of you guys for you guys. I could give two ***** if Shane, Gonzo, Caddy, Bulldogs, Vidae or anyone else is a power role but don't ***** when you constantly are one of the ones messing up the balance and then you don't see a power role until you show that you are actually going to play.
We do what we do to keep the game balanced and because some of you are divas or hold grudges we have to do what we can to balance that.

Well typically 5 of the 8 actions target him night one.

Within the first two nights anyway. I've noticed people avoiding him night 1's now since he's likely to get protection or be watched.

It doesn't matter how you spin it, randomisation is the only true, fair option. The fact that certain people or groups of people are predisposed to be certain roles/teams just tarnishes the game as far as I am concerned.
If one of the reasons you make an inactive person a townie, because they aren't around a lot, then don't let them play. From now on what is going to happen is the regular contributors are going to be targeted even MORE often than usual because now people will know/think that they're more likely to have a power role, and based on recent history they'd apparently be right.
In future games you have to go random now, because otherwise, players like myself/Gonzo/Jbond/Viddy/Jr/Bulldogs etc will be killed early by the mafia because they'll think it has been rigged a certain way.
You say you have to balance it, but I completely disagree. Random is the best way. It is the only way to completely eliminate any bias in the role giving process.

You don't think I possess any deductive skills? I single handedly (Todd excluded) took down Gonzo/Back-up Godfather a few games back without a hint of evidence. I actually go with my gut BB. I'm not sure the same can be said of you. And Gonzo and I might not like each others approaches, but at least he too actually goes with his gut feeling. One of the very, very few.

It actually HAS had a fantastic balancing effect. Headed forward, you are correct, there will be no choice but to randomize since this dirty little secret has gotten out.
But several of the best games I've modded/played in weren't completely randomized and it helped enormously.

There was no intended sarcasm. You say you've got them, and I'm willing to give you (and everyone) a game to show them off.

Preferably njx finishes that site and everyone has a randomized name that is only for that game thus removing any biases.

Just check out my past games, you'll see it is fairly apparent in many of them. I don't follow people. I only plan on playing in games with great/amazing themes heading forward to be honest.

So, as I understand it, that is going to give people random code names for each game, correct?

My son has a doctor's appointment at 10:30 so I'll be stepping out in about 15 minutes for about an hour or so, just wanted to let everyone know

I don't get this notion that I throw in the towel as a townie. I'm one of the few that talks just as much when I am.

You have had a few games where you have been quiet as a townie. It was mainly the DDN game for the first 3 days.
ATL is the main culprit and he knows it. I think he has even said its the case.

DDN game I kept my mouth shut until I had a clue what was going on then was probably the most active poster.

I admit nothing. Seriously though, I don't think I "throw in the towel" as a townie. I still add and participate, I just play lazy/more prone to skimming, etc.

That's kind of what we mean. Both of you tend to do it. Everyone modding the DDN game discussed it at one point, so it's pretty evident when you do it.
