Skins(the UK version) certainly has a lot of drinking, drugs, dumb **** and sex, but there is so much more to the show, those things are there simply because they are there in real teens' lives. Skins tries to create an actual drama, tell actual stories with the characters(and does so pretty well IMO). So what does MTV do when they decide to make an American version? Just do a shot-by-shot remake, except a lot shittier. Literally the bare minimum of exertion was put into that show, just hoping to gather an audience capitalizing of the supposed controversy of what Skins shows.

And all of this heavily affects those with actual television writing, directing and producing talent. We are so used to the ****** stuff put out, that that genre becomes associated with it and most likely see it as lowerclass of storytelling, that those involved with that genre are likely striving to be elsewhere and either aren't their yet or aren't good enough to ever get there. There are plenty of great serious, adult dramas out there, and consequently that is what most people aspire to be when they want to be involved with television. With all the great television and movie talents out there, how many are like John Hughes? Very, very few.

The American version of Skins made me puke after like 10 minutes. The British have a stranglehold on that particular area of television, albeit still in High school (Inbetweeners, Skins, Misfits etc). Although, I don't mind watching Awkward on MTV.

I still like a few high school linked shows (Veronica Mars, Friday Night Lights), but that wasn't exactly as high school focused as others.

I was unaware it was a UK TV show already, but MTV is making its own version of Inbetweeners I believe.

Trust me. Don't watch the American version of Inbetweeners. It will be horrible. The humour won't translate at all and they'll change the dialogue and tone and it will suck.

Go watch UK Skins (may as well watch all six seasons to be honest), The Inbetweeners + The Inbetweeners movie, and Misfits. All great shows.

Yeah third was by far the worst. The 2nd generation wasn't great, but it had some really good characters and the final scene was pretty badass.
