The field isnt a awful bet here. I'd probably play it safe and take Kuechly.

Same here. Tackles are the easiest to rack up and what the voters look at.

Morris Claiborne wouldn't be a shocker either. I think he's expected to start, no?

Not sure if you're serious as he was a WTF pick, but he is in line for playing time and has been impressive so far. Is physical and has some versatility.
Keuchly is the safest bet if you ask me because he is a tackle machine and because of his coverage skills he should get a few picks and maybe a couple of sacks. He is always around the ball and will have some talent surrounding him so I think he will take the award this year.

Kuechly has been very impressive in camp, will certainly start day one. Plus he is a Panther. So obviously that is where my vote is going.

If I'm voting on who I think actually wins it, I'd go Kuechly. But if I were a better man (which I just so happen to be) I'd put a few greenbacks on Irvin and possibly Upshaw.

My non-Luke pick would be Janoris. Could see him making a lot of QB's pay for challenging him.

I think Jenkins is going to make a few teams regret passing on him.

Janoris Jenkins has already been named a starter and has been very impressive in camp.
He looks like a natural and will have more than his share of picks as opposing QBs will make the mistake of targeting a rookie corner.
He will win the DROY.

Charles Woodwind wad the last one back in 98. Since then its been mostly LBers, a few DEs and 1 DT.
Kearse, Peppers and Suh are the only non-linebackers to win since 98.

I don't think it's possible for a NT to win the award, let alone one that didn't put up stats in Conference USA.

Can't help but feel it will be Kuechly. I love the chances of one of the defensive backs having a big year, though. I have even provided a homer argument for one not in the poll that I think can change some minds.

Safeties win it less than corners. A safety hasn't won for 22 years.
I just posted up an article using these numbers on my thoughts:

Going to be very interesting in watching Gilmore, although admittedly mostly for homer reasons. He is very talented, but after his great freshman year he had a sophomore slump and then still got beaten a good many times last year. I have a personal theory that coaching may have had an impact, as he got a new position coach after his freshman year. If Gilmore shines in the NFL, it probably does reflect on the coaching he received those last two years which doesn't bode well for us, considering he's been promoted to DC.
