If Gilmore shines in the NFL, it probably does reflect on the coaching he received those last two years which doesn't bode well for us, considering he's been promoted to DC.

He's having a good camp, so far. Thrust right into #1 role. Playing very physical and holding his own with Stevie Johnson. I'm excited for it. Can't be worse than what Florence gave us against #1 receivers last year and his potential is so high. Hopefully the line can indeed make it a little easier on him.

The first linebacker taken would be the best bet. That's boring, for dark horse Chandler Jones. Lots of pass rushing opportunities with that offense.

I'm taking the field. I don't love any of the guys listed here. I think they are all good players and will be good, but I'm not sure any of them will be in position to stand out in their rookie years.
If you make me pick one, I'll take Dont'a Hightower.

I think Fletcher Cox could be a monster in the Eagles Wide 9 system.
Keuchly seems the obvious, however playing WILL he will need to make a lot of plays and tackles won't be as easy to come by as if he were in the middle.
I think Hightower has a great shot at this. He's gonna get way more playing time than Spikes because he can play in the sub defenses plus he brings it as a pass rusher. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as the Pats most productive 'backer

A darkhorse is Bobby Wagner, he already has a starting spot if I'm not mistaken. He's a guy who will rack up a ton of tackles and should have a few sacks/picks as well.

A sfaety hasn't won in over 20 years. I doubt Barron wins unless he grabs a ton of INTs.

I believe that only two Safeties have won the award. Mark Carrier won it in '90 with a 10 interception season. Erik McMillan won it in '88 with 8 INTs (two returned for a TD).

Defensive lineman need a lot of sacks to win the award. Linebackers need a lot of tackles to win the award. Defensive backs need a lot of interceptions to win the award.
One is clearly a lot easier than the other two for a rookie to accomplish.

I don't know, I think Barron could finish with a lot of tackles from his safety spot. Especially with how easy RBs are going to get to the second level against the Bucs.

i forgot about how weak they are up front with price out, mccoy made of glass, and bowers all but finished. CLayborn is a beast, but thats not enough....i think barron has a legit shot at a ton of tackles and a hand full of picks

Melvin Ingram will be the best rookie pass rusher from this draft. He looks like a blown up James Harrison.

This better be a joke. That fat kid will bust so hard that Larry English will look like a good pick.

No way Perry wins the award. There are just way better players in this rookie class. Take off the homer goggles.

I've pointed out some of Perry's flaws and I don't think he'll win DROY, but I also don't think there are "way better" players in this class. I really don't see any transcendent prospects in this class, like we had with Von Miller a year ago.
Even if there are "way better" players, Perry is playing opposite Clay Matthews in Dom Capers system. It's entirely possible that he could spend the season tripping over his own dick and still stumble into 10 sacks.

Yeah I was actually thinking Perry might be the one rookie pass rusher in the best situation to get double digit sacks playing opposite CMIII.
He could get it.
He reminds me a lot of Orakpo, but Perry is better IMO.

That's not a bad guess actually. He could end up with 10+ sacks in that defense which will be a DROY award in most years.

Either Kuechley or field. Since there are no odds, this a no brainer.

I'm not saying he's the best player in this rookie class at all, I'm not even saying he's the best defensive player in this class. You have to take away all DL and DB from this award barring a freak season because historically those positions don't win the award. Packers defense was lacking one huge thing last year and it was a rusher oppo of Clay Matthews. In turn that gave the offense the ability to key in on Clay and then have upwards of 5 seconds per pass attempt (not a real stat, but maybe not an exaggeration). Perry has the force opposite of him and the secondary behind him to become a playmaker and a constant in the backfield on passing downs. These awards love stats, and if Perry can get 8-12, he's very much in the running and that's not unrealistic to think.
And I mentioned Kendricks so my homer glasses were never on. You had a very compelling counter argument, though, I'm glad you took time out of your day to think in depth about the content of your post.
