Meh. I think friendzone relationships are mostly destined to fail because the guy has usually built the girl up to an unrealistic level of awesomeness and is disappointed when he finds out she's not perfect.

I accomplished this task once, and it didn't work out, but I did it nonetheless. I have realized though that it pretty much never happens. I felt awesome beating the friend zone while it lasted though. Its a tough thing to do, and at least for me, it wasn't worth the effort or breaking down the friend zone wall, after everything was said and done.

Maybe not to the extent of "perfect" for me, but it didn't take me long to realize that once we were going out, she wasn't what I was looking for. But this is pretty much the basic gist.

I wasn't best friends with my wife so I'm not sure if it qualifies as "Friend Zone", but we were friends for 3 years before we started dating. I think that is about as close you can get to defeating Friend Zoning.

I was not best friends or even friends really with my wife. More of an acquaintance. She was my backup date to a Jimmy Eat World show. It just kind of escalated from there. When I was younger I did the whole friendzone thing with a girl but realized (too late, but I'm still glad I realized it) I was wasting my time.

I think all men have tried getting stuck in the friend zone at least once. The trick is to spot the signs early and get the **** out as quick as possible - preferably spiced with some insults and full on ignore mode after that. That **** always works and will leave the ***** devastated if she had just a little thing for you. That worked for me and got me some nice make up sex, but it never led to a relationship. I met my gf at a random party and invited her out a few weeks later. I don't think there's a right way of finding a gf, but being friends with the girl first seems like the most wrong way to me given my experiences.

bah, even then, there are some girls i'm just friends with. no interest in sleeping with them, ever, but they're good people. if they tried to suggest that i should sleep with them out of some kind of obligation, just because they were 'nice', i'd slap them, too.
