Jackson has usually had good games against us, especially when hes working against McCourty.

Ugh, don't remind me. I still have nightmares where I wake up sweating and my anus hurts just from dreaming about the big rape of '11. If McCourty doesn't step up this season I will cut ties with him.

Two injured starting safeties. Next year, the Patriots should draft only safeties.

Koutovides has been terrible tonight, but Ebner is showing up. Good signs from him, especially when considering how little experience he has playing defense.

Ryan Mallett looked like a starting QB tonight.
Would you release Brian Hoyer if he becomes the Patriots 3rd string QB? I think I might to save a roster spot. Mallett clearly looks like the second best QB two weeks in a row. If Brady were to go down (****!), Mallett would likely be the guy they go to.

What happend to McCourty between the 2010 and 2011 season?
He was tremendous in his rookie season and now he lookes worst than E.Hobbs in 2007!!
What do you think of Demps? Nice cut and speed on his 29y run. But it is enoght for a rooster-spot ?

He was hurt a good portion of the year. (missed a few games and played through some injuries [at least it was my observation that something was physically wrong... I could be completely wrong about that though])
There was a shot (from the end zone) of him walking back to the sidelines and it looked like his left arm was hanging out of socket. Imagine playing against Brandon Marshall with a bad shoulder? I don't really blame him for sucking.
And then there was him missing all of the offseason because of the lockout.
Maybe his rookie season set the bar a little too high as well.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the possibility of signing Thomas Welch? He played eight games between New England (three) and St. Louis (five, with Josh McDaniels), so he should be familiar with the offense.

Sure, this team could use some more depth at OT.

After watching Vollmer stretch and Cannon block, this team suddenly looks like it needs a viable RT backup.
Vollmer, after his incredible rookie and sophomore years, looks like he can't stay healthy. Re-signing him long-term seems unlikely.

Jets: Tebow/Sanchez
Bills: Fitzgerald/Jackson
Dolphins: Tannehill
Is it even fair to bet on the Patriots winning the division anymore?

Hernandez got an extension as per Schefter
I love how aggressive BB has been the past few months with Gronk and Hernandez and also the draft.
Also a great time to extend him because he is going to explode this year. I think he could lead the league in catches

Here's the recap so far:
shalise manza young @shalisemyoung
to recap: G. Warren, J. Barrett, R. Ventrone, D. Stallworth, T. Bulman reported cut - #Patriots have five to go to get to 75
Two players are expected to be put in PUP/NFI, so three more cuts are expected.

I think the big thing to watch on the Hernandez deal is the money. His camp made it clear that down the line if he was to be franchised they would push for the WR numbers instead of TE. I think it could in the region of 9million a year

Yeah, but he isn't a WR though. So I expect the number to be lower than that. Hernandez is valuable, but not irreplaceable. I wouldn't be upset if the contract is $45 mil, but I do think that is a bit too much for player like Hernandez. Especially when considering that the cap is going to be flat for the foreseeable future.

From what I'm hearing the two remaining years on his rookie deal will remain the same.
I think the cap will go up within the next few years and the Pats are getting these deals done now with an eye on that. For teams who wait on it changing, at that point some deals will be huge. I think in a few years, bearing in mind you have Jimmy Graham up for an extension in the next two years, that $9m per year will be a good deal for a TE of Hernandez's ability. Hopefully it is lower than that but that is what I am expecting

I went to espn's boston page to check the Patriots releases (assuming they'd have made a few) and saw the headline say "TE Party". My first thought was, "yeah they're pretty good..." and then I saw the caption under it.
I nearly jumped up and danced. Having both of those guys locked up long term is huge.

Spencer Larsen has been cut as well, leaving two more. Larsen was paid a $250,000 signing bonus.

Looks like Razor was right about Hernandez:
Quote:
|
Greg A. Bedard: Hernandez deal: five year extension worth $40 million with $12.5-million signing bonus and $16.4 million guaranteed.
