2012 49ers Gameday Thread: Week 1: 49ers at Packers
Week 1:
Sunday, September 9, 2012
San Francisco 49ers (0-0)
vs.
Green Bay Packers (0-0)
Location: Lambeau Field
Time: 1:25 pm pst
Line: GB -5
Announcers (FOX): Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Pam Oliver
Dude, the 9ers are like … relevant again. This is awesome. Opening up at Lambeau? Yeah, I’d say that pretty much means you’re relevant. Some people have SF in the Super Bowl. Relevant. Starting the season with Super Bowl aspirations is a beautiful thing.
And then this happens:
Which leads to this:
And then finally, this:
Which got me to thinking about how I wished this Aaron Rodgers fella was a 9er. So I looked it up and, you guys will never ever believe this, but it turns out the 9ers could have picked Rodgers instead of Alex Smith. Crazy huh. I totally researched it. No one ever mentioned it before. Ever. See, here’s proof:
Same draft. Turns out, the 9ers had the first overall pick. They took Smith. Seriously. I researched it. I bet the announcers mention it in the game. You’re welcome Joe Buck.
I haven’t been this excited about a season in a while. There is so much to be excited about.
This:
Definitely this:
I mean, if I was a girl …
As always, this:
All this awesome to get excited about, and then they go and drop this on us:
**** yeah. As far as low risk/high reward gambles go, this one has monster potential.
Or he could just end up like this:
My pick for 49er with the best stat line at the end of the year:
Gimme a thumbs up if you promise to stay out of off-the-field trouble:
Double? … Nice.
Back to the Packers, this has always scared me, like, Antonio Freeman-style scared.
Ugh, these guys are pretty good too:
BTW, if I was any good at photoshop, I’d be putting all kinds of funny **** in Woodson’s hands.
And I guess they’re going to rock this guy in the backfield
I kind of like the move for Green Bay. Won’t matter against our run D though.
The Packers are the early favorite for the Super Bowl. Rightfully so. I think they have the best team. I guess it’s better to get this one out of the way early in the season. Helps our BCS standings.
And finally,
Hopefully moar of this:
And not this:
Standings:
It’s Week ******* 1. I’m not posting any standings!
Special Note: One last dance with this and then it’s on to 2012:

I'm sorry Brian Sabean. I was wrong. I think I might have been right, but you have Scoreboard.
Cant wait until Sunday and for the first year ever, I'll be able to watch every 49ers game. :) Thankfully, I have PS3 for NFL ST and Cablevision for the few MNF and TNF games. So pumped.
Packers passing offense is awesome but thats it. Their defense is average and their running game is non-existent. I'm more concerned about their return teams than I am with their defense and running game.
Personally, our offense hinges on two things - our OL playing up to their draft status/ability and WR Randy Moss. I believe that he is the wildcard. If he can at least match his 2009 season, our passing offsense will be a threat. If he repeats 2010, our offense as a whole will be what it was a year ago.
Either way, im definitely excited for Sunday's game. Definitely believe that we can win the game and if we dont, I'll be disappointed but as long as its within single digits, it wont be as bad considering its just the first game and its in Green Bay. I would be more concerned if this game was in December.
Hoping Moss crushes the Packers secondary and regains his old form.
Years of disappointment has really tempered my expectations even after a 13-3 season. I just hope it doesn't end up like 49ers at Seattle on opening day two years ago. High expectations and the 49ers wet the bed. Oh and apparently Jacobs and Ginn are doubtful for the opener. Williams will be returning punts most likely. I pray Frank Gore has a huge game. I think he's the key. Hunter too.
How many points are the Packers favored by anyways?

Green Bay has more to prove than the Niners in this game. adding the pressure to them, providing a decent opportunity for an early season let down. They are at home and are the favorite. They are expected to win. They had the league's best record and were embarrassed in the playoffs. I like Harbaugh having this squad mentally ready to play hard, physical Niner football. With a solid defensive effort and the offense scoring TDs and not FGs, they'll come away with the W.
The one wildcard is if we'll see Harbaugh and Roman (now with a season and full non-lockout offseason) unleash Alex a bit to challenge this secondary that mightily struggled last season. I see some jump balls being thrown to Moss and some downfield shots to VD and Jenkins/Williams being mixed in. They were so Vanilla in preseason that it'll be exciting to see what the gameplan/wrinkles are in the passing game.

I hope the Packers don't score on their first drive. I also hope it's a long day. Man I'll be ******* pissed. Be ready. I really don't want to hear how it was the Green Bay defense that won the game and shut the 49ers down all day.
It will also be interesting to see how Aldon Smith maintains his stamina since he's going to be playing most of the downs now.

If you have an hour to kill- 49ers vs Packers Madden Simulation. Obviously things will be different but I've only watched the first quarter, and it seems feasible (the playcalls, formations, outcome on both offense and defense).
What a crappy game. 13-6. And you can see exactly one of the major complaints with that crappy game. The play-calling. Seriously, a draw play to Gore that ends the game. 2K needs to return in two years because Tiburon and EA suck. M13 has so many problems, its amazing that it hit retail the way it did but then again, EA uses the consumers as testers so im not really surprised either. UGH.
I just hope the 49ers look prepared. I don't think that's too much to ask for. If they seem focused and don't make a lot of mistakes with penalties and turnovers they should have a decent shot to win the game.
