I have a hard time believing Doan will sign anywhere that isn't an immediate Cup contender.

Red Wings reportedly have offered Carlo Colaiacovo a 2-year/2.7 million per contract.
I hope he signs.

Figures we sign Suter and Parise and there will be a lockout. Just great

I read yesterday that NBC must pay the NHL owners $200 million even if the entire season is canceled.
But to answer your question, it'd be ******* disaster for the sport.

I'm thinking the same thing with regard to the massive Winter Classic bonanza in Ann Arbor/Detroit.

i'd be shocked if any US tv channel picked up any games post-lockout, especially in the first year. the league would basically lose every single person it's had to fight tooth and nail to get back the last few years. a shortened season might be salvageable, but i honestly think the sport is basically dead in the US if they cancel another season. you might be able to keep a bare handful of teams going in strong markets, but they'd be entirely dependent on those local markets, imo.
i can say, with 100% certainty, that i will never give the NHL another dollar if they lockout again, just like i haven't given MLB any money (even peripherally, as much as possible) since their last strike.

I'd be totally fine if the NHL just reverted back to an Original Six.
Totally fine.

honestly, i think it would have to. i can't imagine a scenario in which the league could really support more than 8-12 teams, and though i don't really know the specifics of each team's local tv market, it wouldn't shock me if it were down to 6. the loss of revenue would be so catastrophic for most of the owners.
i wonder if the players are banking on going to europe/russia/wherever to play, or if everyone involved really is this stupid?

I vote to realign the National Hockey League into two eight-team conferences
American Conference
Detroit, New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Buffalo, Minnesota
Canadian Conference
Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Quebec City/Hamilton

As pumped as I was for that I'm not sure if I would continue to support this league if we go through this again.

I wonder if they agreement between the KHL and the NHL applies when there is a lockout. Not sure if that was a handshake deal or actually written out.
Also I wouldn't mind seeing the league losing a few teams.

I just wanted to pop in one time and let you guys know about something kinda cool. My dad was remodeling a house for a guy whose brother-in-law is Jimmy Dowd. He gave him my contact info and said Jim was going to get in contact with me to talk about hockey and maybe offer me a job once I'm done with school if all goes well because he still works for the NHL in some capacity. Pretty excited.

You should be all "I know this guy from Buffalo who really knows his stuff. We should get him in on this."
That's really cool, though. Good luck with that.

I'm pretty sure the NHL owners are allergic to money. Another lockout? If this costs games, this league is sunk. Only the diehard fans will remain this time. You can't be doing this to the fans and keep expecting them to return.

I'm personally going to become a fan of the Erie Otters. Less than two hours away, with Dansk and McDavid? I'm in.
