gary bettman is probably the worst commissionner of all-time in any professional sports league. 3rd lockout under his watch. pathetic. keep arguing over revenue splits much longer and there isn't going to be any revenue to split.

Anything less than a 50 game schedule is going to be a DISASTER for the league. They all should know that.

i still fully believe that the nhl as a league ceases to exist in any meaningful way if that happens.

I respectfully disagree. As long as they play hockey this year, it'll be okay. A full year lost would definitely lead them down the road you are predicting, however.

it's fair, but i think any games cancelled will have a dramatic impact on their ability to keep a tv deal. i can't imagine nbc signed something that wouldn't give them an out if there's a lockout, but if the owner's are this determined to not play, maybe i'm wrong. if i'm right about the tv deal i'd guess, at minimum, games lost will turn into teams contracted.

Doan finally signed. Don't ruin one of the last good years he may have left in him.

Fehr is just as much at fault at this point.

Yeah...but you aren't supposed to support the fat cats...you should support the downtrodden players who have to pick up second jobs being on the cover of games and magazines to make ends meet!
Errr...wait a minute....
But yeah, both sides are being equally greedy/stubborn.
It is a negotiation. Neither side is actually trying to negotiate.

The owner's initial proposal was a huge lowball so it's easy for them to say they've made huge concessions. Their last offer wasn't too bad, although it came with an ultimatum. The players initial offer was a lot better than the owner's but since then they've basically been making the same offer over and over. It's so frustrating because everyone can see the middleground this is heading to where a deal will eventually be made but neither side wants to be the first one to give in. I almost feel like they would benefit from the help of a mediator like the NFL used last year.

Agreed. I mean the lowball is just part of negotiating. But the players just haven't budged much.
They waited to start and fans will suffer.
I am relatively new to hockey and quite frankly living in Cincinnati with only the Cyclones to watch (live, not on TV) and whatever NBC airs, I know I will eventually lose interest if the season is delayed.

Two years, 2.8 per for Ennis. This certainly seems like the deal the front office wanted.

I think a lot of people in the upper levels think (after seeing the NFL lockout) that as long as it doesn't affect games, it's a good strategy to put pressure on the players.
Both sides know they can't do what basketball did and lose games.

Sabres are still paying over $20 million in signing bonuses during the lockout. Ha.

i'm going to be very surprised if this lockout doesn't last the whole year again. the real losers here besides the fans are all the people that are going to get laid off from their teams and from local businesses because millionnaires are fighting over millions. not that i really took time out of my life to watch the nhl anyway (the ahl is a lot more exciting to me) i will most likely not be visiting nhl.com anymore and avoiding games on tv at all costs. it would be cool if the fans could actually make an impression on the league, but we all know all they care about is the money and the media.

I like the game too much to not watch the best in the world if they're playing. I also live in a hockey-crazed NHL city, so that undeniably helps towards following the show. But the AHL is awesome.

If a player signs with a Sweden team, does that mean they're there for the whole year or does that just mean that they go over there to stay and shape pretty much?

The Swedish Elite League is not accepting contracts for less than the whole year. That's why most players going to Sweden are playing in a lower division so they can play for a period that is more brief, should the lockout be resolved.
I don't think there have been many NHL regulars committing to any European team for the entire season.

I wish Ottawa would move their farm team close but at least we have the CHL here. It's nice to check out a lot of top prospects coming through and even some Sens spects if we're lucky like Prince the last few years, and now Ceci. Not to mention Monahan's a stud and will be going top 5 next year(hopefully to Ottawa when they luck out in the lottery all thanks to the lockout). I don't cheer for the 67's or any team for that matter but I love watching OHL/CHL for those reasons. They'll be playing in the big rink this year too while construction gets done on theirs which is just a bonus. Season starts Thursday and I'm goign to try to make it out for the opener.

Ah, ok thanks man. So I got nothing to worried about with Berglund and Oshie going to Sweden.

All of the best CHL teams are based in Northwestern Pennsylvania.
McDavid in Erie and Jones in Portland? All the best CHL is in America, these days!

Eerie can't be any worse than last year :/
Portland has been awesome for a while now. Not really fair that they picked up Jones haha. I can't believe they haven't made a Mem Cup in the past few seasons. Edmonton will be tough to beat again though. Might have to make a trip across to Gatineau if Mackinnon comes to town as well. Another reason why Ottawa's great for junior hockey.
