I'm thinking about getting the 7" Kindle Fire HD. I'm an Amazon Prime member....and it seems like a really good choice and pretty affordable at $199. Anyone have experience with it? I know it runs a form of Android.

Look a few posts above. The Nexus 7 is the same price and probably a better option.

All reviews state that the N7 has the edge... UNLESS you're a Prime member on Amazon and then the Kindle edges it out.
I personally love the N7 but I'm not a prime member so I can't speak on that. Just what I've read.

That's what I read too and I am an Amazon Prime member. Which is why I've picked the Kindle over the N7. If I wasn't then yea the N7 would have been the choice.

so, my favorite thing about apple maps... when you're in denver and you search for 'airport', the first result is stapleton airport. which closed in 1995.

Functional airports are too mainstream. EVERYBODY uses them.

I love my iphone. This phone is amazing.
Coming from android to the iphone, there are a lot of noticeable differences that I just love about my iphone.
1. The fit and finish. It's just asthetically pleasing. It uses quality metals and glass, and just feels good in your hands. I held the s3, it was too big, and the cheap plastics used on it really turns you off after holding an iphone.
2. The apps. The apps on the iphone are just plain better than android. They have more apps, plus the apps that both platforms have, like pandora, ebay, fandango etc are just plain better on the iphone. It's very obvious that the software developers just spend more time on their iphone app vs their android app. This makes the app experience noticably better on the iphone to me. And apps are 90% of the battle.
3. Yeah the android platform is more "customizable", but just jailbreak your iphone and you can customize it just as much. In fact, maybe more.
4. IOS is just smoother. The interface is like a hot knife through butter.
5. Siri is the ****.
So yeah.

this is not only demonstrably untrue, but is apparently unabashed trolling.

Thinking about the Galaxy Nexus. It's only $350 direct from the G and while it's been out a while the specs still seem pretty high-end, especially for the price. And it has JellyBean, and presumably will get the next Android release before anybody else. Any downside here that I am missing?

ok, apparently i'm exhausted; i thought you meant the iphone 3gs.
it really, totally depends. what do you want to be able to do? what's lacking, or what do you think you want? i'd almost always start off with jailbreaking... i'll probably finally go ahead and break mine, now that JB is out, though i'm not sure if i want to wait for an incremental update first. either way, that's usually step one in getting a lot more control on your phone.

Speaking of that, my in-laws are buying her an iPad so the N7 is mine! Though now I have to figure out something else to get her.

the next android release also depends on your service provider, if you don't break it, fwiw. but either way, this is likely a 5 year phone for me (barring any revolutionary changes in the meantime).
