141 yards against the Texans defense today. I've said since week 2 that he's been a victim of circumstance so far this season for the most part. Bad offensive line, getting behind very early. I think today proved that he's still going to get his yards if the line can block for him with a pulse occasionally.

No CJ2K clearly reads SWDC, and this thread pissed him off so much that he actually cared today...only logical explanation...

His team lost by 24. Just a guess, but I have a feeling that wasn't a particularly tough 141.

He had like 80 some yards IIRC before we got down by 21 in the 3rd.

CJ2k gets yards when playing for Matt Hasselback.

He doesn't give a shiit about locker. Only explanation.

Only dumb GMs hand out big contracts to RBs.

I don't care how good a RB is, they're not worth the $$ investment, especially when you can pick up a free agent or late round pick that gives you 80-90% of what you'd get from that "star" RB.

if they didn't give the contract last year and traded him, where would this magic 1000+ yard Rb come from?

I understand its easier to get rbs, but you still need to get one before letting one walk.

So where do you propose they get him? Lets just say they traded him in offseason before draft. Go, also must drafted after 3rd round(your rules not mine), and FA can't cost what more then Benson signed for this year. The year 2011 of course.

You simply don't need an elite running back. Just throw some free agent or late round pick out there. If he only gets 3.9 ypc, whatever. All that matters is the development of your QB and your passing game.

I'd have drafted a guy like Chris Polk in the later rounds and just thrown him out there to compete with some other free agent RB and see what comes out of the wash.

Jamaal Charles signed a pretty team friendly deal. We definitely didn't break the bank.

Now the Chiefs just need a QB and they can, uh, win some games.

Just goes to show how meaningless a "stud RB" is if your passing game isn't top-notch.

Christian Ponder has been very efficient this year. Looks like he could easily become a franchise QB.

If they were still trotting out Tarvaris Jackson/ Donovan McNab esque retreads out there, there's no way they're 3-1 right now.

Ray Rice and Lesean McCoy... This conversation is over. That is $40 million beautifully spent. It all depends on who you spend that money on, and how you use that player within the offense. Again saying a position is worthless is stupid.

what if you end up with shiit ala the Steelers, or Bengals or Chargers, or GB.

Lucky for those teams they already have good Qbs, and just need a running game for the sake of balance.

But why would you want to put all the burden of your team on a young Qbs shoulders? Wouldn't you want to make it easier by having a good running game? Wouldn't that further develop your QB? Like Rivers and Roethlisberger who both had strong running games to rely on, Flacco, Ryan.

This. Really just makes me facepalm when people start acting like the NFL's shift towards being a passing league somehow means no one will care about a running back having elite ability. It all depends on the schemes your team runs. And then the number of teams focusing on their running games is what creates the running back market. You can look at a team like the Packers or Saints and say, "See? They don't need a stud running back."

But people who act like the Ravens, Eagles, 49ers, Seahawks, Raiders, Jaguars, Texans, etc. - teams that use a lot of the run game in their offensive plans - would be better if they went the cheap route with running backs and simply spend more on the pass game are really being foolish, I think. You simply can't just look at teams with big-name, elite running backs on their roster and wave your hand saying, "Eh, you can find someone like that in the later rounds."

I mean, sure - you can. Yes - Arian Foster exists. But you're building a team, and there are may ways to do that - teams who focus on the run game are going to spend more money on it. I think the issue comes when you have backs like Matt Forte, who are very productive but aren't game-breakers. When he says he wants to get paid like Adrian Peterson, or whatever, his front office looks at him and says, "No... you're just not that good. Not worth that much money to us." It doesn't mean running backs are not worth spending money on, it's a matter of identifying which players actually command that much money. Are there teams besides Chicago who are dying for an opportunity to acquire Forte and have him carry their offense? I don't really think he's that kind of player. Just for what it's worth, conversely, and because he's also been in the news - I think MJD is closer to being the kind of running back another team would want, and be willing to make a big move for. So it's not so much a matter of teams thinking, "Well, anyone will do," than it is a matter of deciding on the real value of a given player. It may well be that it's harder now to find a running back who is clearly a tier above other running backs, but ultimately if you find a special player, at any position, it's worth it to keep him on your team.

Titans fans, you're welcome. I finally traded CJ in one of my leagues earlier this week, the clear explanation for his breakout.

That being said, I still don't trust him moving forward.

I dropped some bench guy and picked up Chris Johnson this past week (who was understandably dropped)
Figured I'd roll the dice since it didn't cost me much of a roster spot.
Not a bad turnout for the first week with him. Hopefully he becomes a steal!

Yeah...good times lol

Now I knew someone was gonna bring this up, and speaking for someone who voted for CJ at that time, you realize the question wasn't "who will have the better/longer career out of CJ & AD"? Everyone wants to have revisionist history on that question, like anybody voting CJ was voting for this pathetic excuse of a RB that we have seen. It was the 2000 yards a season CJ, and then he was very much so in the argument of best RB in the league if not the best at the time.

What does him turning into a lazy, non motivated, slow ass runner at this point have to do with the question that was asked back then? It's like all the Adrian Peterson fans want to act like because he sucks now, this is somehow how bad he sucked years ago.

This reminds of Bill Simmons' (yuck) wine cellar argument. That players are like vintage brands of wine and you have to consider the YEAR when talking about a player, because different versions of the player will emerge over his career.

Fixed it for you. That's a ******* insanely huge number, and is 600+ yards more than AP's best season. Chew on that for a minute.
