Ray Horton is at the top of mine. Great DC for the Cardinals, experience with the 3-4, and a hot coaching name out there right now. I know boe loves him too.

Horton could certainly be an option, just keep in mind that his zone blitz is significantly different from Romeo's defense and may require more personnel changes than you'd think.
Does anyone think the Chiefs would part ways with Steve Breaston after the season? His base salary of $3.8 million is only guaranteed for injury, and he has a $1.3 million roster bonus, according to Joel Thorman.

It wouldn't surprise me if we did, but only if Bowe stays. If Bowe takes off, which I think is a very real possibility, Breaston has added value.
Of course, if Pioli and the rest of the coaching staff is fired, I wouldn't be surprised by anything.

It may make sense to blow everything up after the season because of the flexibility Kansas City will have to rebuild their team (Bowe, Albert, Dorsey set for FA, Cassel without guaranteed money remaining, potentially high draft pick.) According to my calculations, releasing these five players would save a little bit over $30 million, with just $3.22 million in dead money (Tyson Jackson):
QB Matt Cassel
Savings: $7.5 million base salary, $250,000 workout bonus
Notes: As far as I can tell, none of Cassel’s remaining contract is guaranteed.
WR Steve Breaston
Savings: $3.8 million base salary, $1.3 million signing bonus, $200,000 workout bonus, $500,000 in incentives
Notes: Has made just four catches on the season (nine targets.)
TE Kevin Boss
Savings: $2.4 million base salary, $1 million(?) workout bonus
Notes: Season-ending concussion, relatively high cap figure.
DE Tyson Jackson
Savings: $14.72 million base salary ($3.22 million guaranteed), $250,000 workout bonus
Notes: Must eat $3.22 million, still no way he gets that base salary.
LB Andy Studebaker
Savings: $1.48 million base salary, $500,000 workout bonus, $1 million incentives
Notes: Has played just 32 snaps on the season.

That is a lot of great work that you put into that, so +rep for that. And I wouldn't be surprised at any of those guys being released.
I think it's a foregone conclusion that Dorsey is gone. I see no reason to re-sign him to any kind of deal. Ditto with Cassel, Boss (his career is likely over), Breaston or Studebaker. I think Tyson will stay if they restructure like they did for this year, but if he refuses he's as good as gone. There is no way they pay him $14m.
The biggest issue for me, right now, is the Albert/Bowe situation. I wonder if Albert re-signs during the season to stay here in KC. If he does, Bowe could be tagged again. If he doesn't, I think he'd get the tag over Bowe.
And another little tidbit, a bunch of "experts" around the KC area think Pioli and RAC could be gone as early as the bye week. That would make things really interesting going forward.
I'm hoping Albert signs here long term. I think Bowe is probably gone. The rest I can do without. Clean house, get rid of dead money, hire a new GM/coaching staff, and draft a QB (Geno Smith or Tyler Wilson). We'd be in much better position than we are now.

The difficulty with getting an Albert extension done this year is that Scott Pioli may not even have a job at this point; that may complicate the Hunt family's willingness to sign off on a Pioli-negotiated deal. I do agree that Albert is more likely to be re-signed than Bowe, or at least I'd be more willing to pay a left tackle than a wide receiver even if Breaston is cut.

if i were Clark, i wouldn't be in any rush to sign any player during this season. with a lame duck HC and GM, every dollar saved helps the next guy get a leg up. the amount of flexibility the next GM will have is unheard of. millions and millions under the cap, no QB, no HC, no long term contracts acting as an albatross around their neck, a hungry fan base craving a winner and an owner, that from what we can tell, that leaves business decisions up to the people he pays to make them (hands off). he wont have to come in here and make waves. the pond is already clear for him.

I would hate to lose both Albert and Bowe though. I guess we'll see. If Bowe walks we could go QB -> WR. That wouldn't be so bad.

Only one of those guys is a "bad" contract (Jackson), and they don't exactly need to cut good players to make cap room.
They just aren't using Breaston the right way. I don't see why they wouldn't want to keep him.

That this team doesn't put out 4 WR looks consistently with two very good slot receivers and 2 big outside threats is a travesty.

I dont think it would take that much of a turnover. I think turnover happens regardless. Dorsey is an FA, and I think T jax will either get cut or restructure. Justin Houston is proving he can drop in coverage and move in every direction.

Although Matt Cassel (concussion) has yet to be ruled out for Week 6, coach Romeo Crennel says it's "highly unlikely" he plays against the Bucs.

Yeah I read that on AHP. I hope to god it's a joke. If Pioli is given an extension then Matt Cassel can't be far behind. And then I'm done rooting for this franchise.

i dont even want to think about Pioli getting an extension right now. if that is true, then i am prolly done with this team because clearly this ownership isnt worried about winning a SB. im not in this to watch 1 and dones in the playoffs . its SB or bust every year for me. i was always under the impression that ownership had the same feelings. we'll see...

Have you watched the Bucs play? Let me remind you, we lost to the Jaguars several years back when they had Quinn Gray as their QB. In that very game he threw a TD to Matt Jones. Think about that for a second.
