Great news if true.
And Matt Cassel is already splitting reps with Quinn in practice. Cassel is going to be the starter here until Pioli is fired so I hope to god that is true.

Was there ever any doubt that Pioli was going to ride the sad Cassel car (with a busted windshield, AM only radio, 3 flat tires and a boot on the fourth) all the way to unemployment-ville?

Not really, no. No question in my mind at all. I don't know if there has ever been a time where I've been more numb to this team. All I want now is for everyone to get fired and for us to have a top 3 pick. That's what I want now.

as of right now, he has no choice but to ride it out (of town) with Cassel. i really, really, REALLY don't see what it was he saw. wouldn't he have to see something, anything from Cassel in order to put his neck on the line for him? especailly after 4 years? i mean his reputation away from Belichick is completely marred now. he has to go back to Bill and try and re-establish himself as a top front office guy. after this complete disaster in KC, he will have a hard time finding another owner willing to give him a shot as GM. i'm talking about years i the future, even after succeeding back with NE, this will haunt and follow him.
we are a good QB from being at least competitive. what about Cassel ever gave him the impression that he was a franchise QB? i just dont get it.

Hypothetical: Would the Chiefs have been better off sticking with Thigpen? Cassel and Thigpen's statistics were similar (if I remember correctly) the year before Cassel arrived. I was hoping the Chiefs would at least give Thigpen an honest chance to retain the job because I saw potential. Obviously he hasn't turned into to anything special, but interesting to look at that point of divergence.

I really don't think so. Thigpen needed a gimmicky offense to look halfway decent and even then his ceiling was decent. I don't see us in a drastically different situation except I don't think we win the West in 2010 with Thigpen under center.

Not really. Tyler Thigpen only had a shot because Tony Gonzalez was playing out of his ******* mind during that period.

He ran off two good offensive coordinators, Chan Gailey and Charlis Weis, and watched his offense go to hell.
Pioli has made a lot of mistakes, not the least of which is making enemies of most of the sports media in KC, but it looks like he did listen to Todd when he brought in Breaston (and overpaid him I might add), Jerhemne Urban (who was also with Todd in Arizona), Leonard Pope & Tyler Palko (another Arizona refugee).

A personnel guy??? Like someone who is a buddy of Dick Haley? Or someone who Pioli fired when he came to KC?
Uhhh, didn't Todd want Tyler Palko?
Look, I'm not saying Pioli has been that great but on the other hand he isn't the anti-Christ either. There are a number of people in Kansas City who have axes to grind about Pioli's treatment of them. He has treated the local press with at best disdain and at worst outright contempt. Even the guys who can put their egos ago aside have been shut the out at Arrowhead. I don't go to Warpaint Illustrated any more because they never know anything that hasn't already been reported nationally. Maybe that's part of the Patriot's Way but it doesn't make much sense. Even Carl always kept a few pet reporters (like Gretz) to get his message out.

A lot of companies have security stand with you while you pack up your office/cubicle/whatever and escort you out of the building. It isn't really unheard of.

Yeah I've seen that go bad before. Sensible precaution.

I have been fired from all but 2 jobs in my life. A couple of which I was escorted to the front door by security/cop. It really isnt that big of a deal.

It's true. When I was an assistant manager, I had to escort a guy we fired, out of the building. No big deal.

He has been hurt a lot, no?
I guess it doesn't hurt. Any chance to make this team better, but I wouldn't count on him being a surefire contributor.

Injuries have derailed his career. Worth a workout for sure, he's got the talent to be a valuable pass rusher off the bench if he can actually get off it.

If I had to guess, he believed in all the ******** that was written about him instead of what he actually knew. If he'd cut out the schizophrenic schtick and just stick with the reality part, he wouldn't be in this situation.

Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel confirmed today that Quinn — and not Matt Cassell — will start on Sunday against the Raiders. Crennel indicated that he made the change because he thinks Quinn gives the Chiefs the best chance to win, not because of any lingering effects from the concussion Cassel suffered two weeks ago.
“I’m changing the quarterback. Brady Quinn will be the starter. Matt will be the backup,” Crennel said, via Johnny Kane of KMBC.

In other news how about K-State?
