And the Chiefs, with no players older than 30, are elite.

I'm still just surprised that Richard Sherman is a good player.

I love and fear the Seahawks defense. Secondary is lights out and the D Line is so damn good. Mebane has been a monster for years

I think if you compared the two defenses last night you saw a slightly better one with the Niners. The way that Seattle was getting gashed up the middle sort of put a spotlight on their two young LBs. Frisco has the better Front 7 i think and big play guys in Patrick Willis and Justin Smith.

I would say SF, SEA and CHI are my clear top 3. Houston got bumped out of the conversation for best defense when Cush went down.
If I had to say one team is best, I gotta go with SF. They have the best all-around. They obviously have the best linebackers in the league, have a great 3-4 front (Justin Smith is probably the 2nd best 3-4 end in the league after Watt), and have a very solid secondary. Rogers isnt playing quite like last year but still a very good corner. Goldson is one of the best safeties out there...and I actually really like some of their lesser known DBs like Chris Culliver and CJ Spillman.

I voted for Seattle. Great safety play and an incredibly deep defensive line.

Combine the Texans DL, the 49ers LBs, and the Seahawks secondary and you have the best defense ever

J-Spot,
Please, shut the hell up about Tim Jennings. He's been very good for 6 games after having been pretty solid for 2 seasons prior. He is not the best anything in football and he benefits from having ~5 better players on the same defense. Tim Jennings has become the favorite CB of football hipsters and I'm not having that ****.
I did vote for the Bears, but it's absolutely accurate that if Urlacher or Briggs, or to a lesser extent Peppers, went down, they would take a noticeable step backwards. A base cover 2 only sucks when your personnel can't run it.....at full health our personnel is pretty damn good.

honestly ive been noticing since Jennings came to the Bears that he had been playing great. Never liked him all that much on the Colts, but he stepped his game up with the bears, I dont know what the reason is. Of course he gets a couple pick-6s and people start overhyping him, but he really has been playing great. TIllman is still the best corner on the team tho.

Fewell's so ******* stubborn, he's actually a good co-ordinator, not great, but good, when he adjusts to his talent. That's why his Bills looked so good and we looked so good in the superbowl run. But when we've been healthy he's tried to implement the defensive version of Gilbride's option routes, which just confuses and ***** with most of our corners. He also doesn't blitz up the middle when he blitzes so our pass rush because ineffective if the front 4 isn't kicking ass.
I like Fewell more than most giants fans on this board because he can be good when he has no other choice than to get his head out of his ass, but spags was great. Even during this latest superbowl with JPP playing better than any giant lineman has in the past decade, including Strahan's record breaking season, and our safety duo improving from James Butler and Gibril Wilson to Kenny Phillips and Antrelle Rolle, the defense wasn't as great as it was during the 07 run or the 08 season. Spags was just perfect for our talent, he blitzed up the middle so all our pressure isn't coming off the edges, he was creative with his stunts and twists to maximize our DL, and he never confused his defensive backs, adjusting to what he had to work with.

Rams should be on this list.
Their D is every bit as good as the Seahawks.
