What would you like your favorite team to do in a hypothetical expansion draft?
For the sake of this exercise, assume that the NFL is forming an expansion team in Los Angeles following the same rules as the 2002 expansion draft: teams must subject five of their players to waivers, none of whom are impending free agents or restricted free agents, and none of whom are currently on injured reserve. The expansion team will be able to select any of these players with the stipulation that they must pay the entirety of that player's remaining contract. Teams are optionally allowed to withdraw their other players after two have been selected from their team.
Who are your team's five players?

This is a pretty tough choice. My first thought was Chris Spencer, but I think he is a free agent next season. I wouldn't be surprised if Brian Urlacher or Lance Briggs were sent (though Urlacher is a free agent next year too).

It's surprisingly more difficult than I thought as well, mostly because not many poor players are signed to multi-year deals.

Rusty Smith, Kamerion Wimbley, Patrick Bailey, Michael Griffin, Jordan Babineaux
Eugene Amano, LeRoy Harris, Ryan Mouton, Will Witherspoon, and the rest of the people I hate all don't fit the criteria because they're either on IR or their contracts are up.

Scumbag JR: can't select free agents, 2/3 players mentioned are impending free agents.
For some reason I also thought the players had to be vested veterans? Maybe not...
For starters for the Bears, I would put up any offensive lineman other than Gabe Carimi who isn't an impending free agent. Maybe I'd keep Lance Louis too. That would be:
LT J'Marcus Webb
G Edwin Williams
C Roberto Garza
So there are three.
Then I'd throw in Craig Steltz, who resigned this offseason for 2 years, so he'd be eligible. Adequate special teamer, doesn't belong near the field on defense. Then Kyle Adams. Backup FB/TE who wouldn't be missed at all and is signed through 2014.
Have fun picking through the Bears trash expansion team!

Julius Peppers could be a choice. He is on the wrong side of 30 and has three years left on a very big contract. Gun to my head, I'd probably send
DE Julius Peppers
WR Devin Hester
OT J'Marcus Webb
CB Charles Tillman
S Major Wright
Edit: BB doing what I did in Madden 2002 when you had to do an expansion draft for the Houston Texans. Pick the worst five players on the roster to put in the draft.

Mark Sanchez - QB
Tim Tebow - QB
Vladimir Ducasse - OT/OG
Bart Scott - ILB
Eric Smith - S
That was too easy.

I don't really know who our upcoming free agents are but I'd probably throw in
Dane Sanzenbacher
Matt Spaeth
Sherrick McMannis
Kyle Adams
Anthony Walters
So if LA wants a WR that can't beat a jam, a blocking tight end or a crappy special teamer, they know where to go.

Uggh this was tough. I'm mostly placing guys on who are almost FA's but up there in football years. We have some depth at CB and RB hence Bradshaw and Webster even though talent wise I wouldn't want to get rid of them.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw
OL David Diehl
CB Corey Webster
WR Jerrel Jernigan
S Tyler Sash

His contract isn't horrible and there are far more trashy players on the roster we can get rid of.

That's kind of the point.....why would we give up good players if we don't have to? We're not in any salary cap trouble.

Dallas Cowboys
1. RT Doug Free - He gets paid too much
2. DE Marcus Spears - Suckage
3. S Barry Church - Got hurt and has become expendable with McCray playing well in his absence.
4. RB Phillip Tanner - Solid, but just a depth guy
5. One of the WRs... Dwayne Harris, Andre Holmes, Donavon Kemp, Cole Beasley

Yes, he's the GOAT. But there are younger players who can do almost just as well while offering more on offense. I could have gone with the bottom five guys on the roster that nobody outside of Chicago has heard of. But I wanted to have a bit more fun with it.

Yeah but why would you dump a guy who is clearly the best ever at his position? I don't care if he offers little on offense, you cannot find a better return man in the NFL. If I had the greatest nickel corner ever, I wouldn't dump him just because he can't start at one of the two primary spots.

I don't think getting rid of every good defensive player on our roster is very fun. I'd put a bounty on Emery's head if he left those players unprotected....even Webb would be kind of stupid, IMO. He sucks, but he's our starting LT and he's not making any money.

I guess if I was pressured I'd go with this for New England:
1. TE Daniel Fells
2. OG Dan Connolly
3. OG Nick McDonald
4. DT Brandon Deaderick
5. DE Justin Francis
Almost every Patriot I'd subject to waivers is an impending free agent or on injured reserve though.

Ray Lewis is one of the best linebackers of all time, but if I'm the Ravens, I'm putting him in there. Peyton Manning is one of the best Quarterbacks of all time, but last season, the Colts would have put him in the expansion draft (I don't think he was put on the IR).
Hester is the best returner of all time. But he isn't as great as he used to be. There are a few guys in the league who are at his level now.
