Mike Leach does not have a way with receivers...

Bryce Brown still got drafted. Wilson could still be a late round pick.

Is Leach really that much of an asshole? Craig James' reputation was ruined because of this guy.

Yeah, Craig James had nothing to do with that. Mike Leach used his power to single handedly ruin the reputation of a well known former player and broadcaster.

Craig James did that to himself.
Leech apparently was tired of the lazy practices that WSU was having, so he made Wilson do pushups. Wilson refused and left.
Hopefully for Wilson, there is more to the story - but it sounds bad.

I'm genuinely very curious but likely won't search for any more to this story so if you kept updating this thread that would be great.

Mike Williams quit his Cuse team, got taken in round 6(?) and is now a full time starter.
Won't be shocked if Wilson follows the same path.

Yep. Someone is going to get a talented player and a future starter late in the draft.

Round 4, actually, pick #101.
Mike Williams's success sort of indicates to me that if Wilson interviews well at the combine, he could go as high as the third.
If he interviews poorly though, all bets are off.

Actually, Mike Williams was dismissed from the team due to poor grades, not quit the team. Any smart GM would have called Syracuse's coach and AD and found that out instead of talking and reading things in the media.
Oh wait, Mark Dominik did. :) .
As for Wilson, have no idea, but Mike Leach seems like a dousche. However, bad character in Wilsons case.

Jesus Christ, I didn't read the word "draft" in the title.
But yeah, stupid kid. Shouldn't have gone to such a ****** football program in the first place, I guess.

Wilson has a lot of potential but it's going to come down to hard work for him.
He's going to struggle A LOT with press coverage at the next level if he doesn't get bigger.
Hopefully for his sake, this is a case where Leach made the situation unbearable for Wilson. If not, and it's his attitude/mental toughness/apathy, he didn't have what it takes in the first place.

I think both Leach and James can both be assholes.
Though I'm inclined to err on the side of Leach here, since "a football coach being a jerk" is not a violation of professional ethics like what James did. James was also terrible at his job, whereas Leach had some success coaching.

Yeah this is oddly enough not that rare now a days, aka Mike Williams from Syracuse did the same thing around the same time during the season. Still doing ok for himself...
Not to even mention Burfict, who did everything wrong that he could before draft day, but still has turned out to be a surprisingly good pro despite all the hate. Is as good as most though before all of those bad decisions.

Guy reminds me of Antonio Bryant.
Same body type minus a couple pounds.
Same playing style.
Same ****** attitude.

Wilson's letter of resignation.
Quote:
“Dear Cougar Nation:
It is with a heavy heart that I announce my decision to forgo playing football for Washington State University. I realize the school is saying that I am suspended for violating team policies and may return next week, but this is a lie. This is an attempt by the athletic department to cover up what is really happening in that locker room.
It is been a privilege to be a Cougar, to perform on your field and wear the Crimson and Gray. I would like to thank Washington State University for giving me the opportunity to do what I love most, to play football and receive a quality education for the past three years. I’m grateful to the athletic department for the coaching, care and encouragement I have received prior to this season.
This was going to be our year. My teammates and I were aspiring to be the winning team you deserve. Unfortunately for all, the new coaching staff has destroyed that endeavor. I believe coaches have a chance to mold players, to shape men, to create greatness. However, the new regime of coaches has preferred to belittle, intimidate and humiliate us. This approach has obviously not been successful, and has put a dark shadow on this program.
My teammates and I have endured this treatment all season long. It is not “tough love”. It is abuse. This abuse cannot be allowed to continue. I feel it is my duty to stand up and shed light on this situation by sacrificing my drams, my education and my pride. I resign from this team. I am deeply sorry to those I am letting down. I am not a quitter. I was raised by my family, and many previous coaches to exhibit dedication and embrace sacrifice, but there comes a time when one has to draw a line in the sand.
Lastly, I thank my fellow teammates, those who also have left the program this year, and those we are leaving behind. I hope our departure will bring awareness to the physical, emotional and verbal abuse being allowed in the locker room and on the field. I pray for healing and recovery for all those who have been hurt by this treatment
Sincerely,
Marquess Wilson”

He'll still be drafted.
And Leach deserved to lose his job at TTech if he hasn't learned anything from it. It's more than just a "football coach being a jerk." Nick Saban is a jerk; Leach is a sociopath.

Wilson probably has the single most important interview day at the combine. If he interviews well, he will be drafted highly. If he interviews poorly, he might not get drafted at all.
NFL teams aren't going to like that he called out his coaches at all.

Since he didn’t RS he should probably just transfer somewhere and sit out a year. I’m sure somebody will pick him up.
