This incident occurred in 1997, not that long ago. At least to me. An official actually asked the home crowd, the Detroit Lions fanbase, to be quiet so that the New York Jets offense can get a play off. If the crowd refused to do so, the Detroit Lions defense would be penalized. This was the final game of the season with a playoff spot on the line. Are officials even allowed to do this? In 2012 I know it would be a huge story in the sports world that would go on for quite some time. Take a look.
