Poor man's Jimmer. Not so bad in college, though.

Not really anything like Jimmer. He's a pure PG who also happens to be a great scorer, he lives in the midrange and finishing at the basket, his shot was off all last year and he still dominated.
Jimmer is just a shooter.

Too bad the Summit will only be a 1 team league. Is SDSU the favorite as of now?

SDSU is definitely the favorite, I would honestly be really surprised if they didn't come out of that conference. Wolters is by far the best player and Oral Roberts who went 17-1 in league play last year is in the Southland conference now.

Good point...forgot that ORU left. I am still surprised they went to the Southland. I think they would have been better served long term looking at the Missouri Valley, Horizon, or even Ohio Valley. But hey what do I know.

Askia Booker is impressive. So smooth.
Also, I kind of can't believe I'm falling for this again but the Gophers could be really solid this year. There aren't many froncourts in the country with more athletic talent than Rodney Williams and Trevor Mbakwe, and if guys like Austin and Andre Hollins continue to step up and be a threat from the backcourt Minnesota could be near the top of the Big 10 this year.

We're healthy so far. That's been the main issue in the past. Well that and legal issues.....
Rodney Williams came on at the end of last year too. If he can put it together he's going to be scary.

He played pretty intense defense when he was on the floor. Hit a sweet looking jumper RIGHT when he stepped on the floor so you know he wasn't going to be hesitant. He displayed an excellent post move: he did a 360 in the blink of an eye and got a floater to go - it is hard to describe but if you saw it, you would realize it was his most impressive score of the night, Imo.
My concern: he doesn't seem like he has ANY right handed ability whatsoever. He was in a one on one in transition and instead of switching to his right he kept going left and just got absolutely destroyed - like stuffed so hard he went to the floor. Another play in traffic it seemed like he thought he could just dunk over everyone like he did in high school but he again seemed to underestimate the difficulty of finishing in traffic at this level.
Given the circumstances such as not practicing due to injury, I would say he was decent. His 15 points are deceiving as four came in garbage minutes. I would say he had 11 in meaningful time. So again, I would say he was decent - I was disappointed that he wasn't more aggressive with rebounding.

I think Shabazz will be fine with a bit of time. Definitely noticed the heavy dependency on this left thought. I think the biggest concern for me tonight (as a UCLA fan) was UCLA's failure to execute against the zone. Kyle Anderson made a few nice plays distributing from the high post, but other than that they looked lost and honestly that is not a new thing with Howland, which concerns me. He also needs to play the Wear twins less. GTown looked very good and shot really well, but that happens.
On the plus side Jordan Adams looked great and aggressive (again) and Kyle Anderson seems to be finding his stride a bit in terms of distributing with his teammates. He made a few made decisions, but a definite improvement. Anderson's length has allowed him to make a lot of good plays on the defensive end as well as being a good rebounder. I honestly think we should start him at the 4.

Honestly, I was shocked you guys didn't go zone. We've struggled mightily against it and I was sure I'd see it for a majority of the night. We're going to struggle against better teams because we have no real post presence. Hopkins is a 4 who is like a duck out of water trying to play the 5. Losing a guy like Adams to a medical really set us back because we really had no viable options behind him. I'd like to see us press more honestly. This team could be a very good fast break team. Doubt JT3 goes away from the Princeton, even though it seems like the right thing to do.

We didn't go to a zone because Ben Howland is our coach. I don't think he can even begin to understand the concept of a zone. Thus why our zone offense is also terrible.
But also to be fair, it is hard to switch into a zone when GTown was stroking the 3 the way they were last night. They were knock down on open looks.

God if we shoot the ball like we did yesterday we can be more dangerous than people think.

Tim Frazier out for the season with a ruptured achilles. This year is going to be a big learning experience for the rest of the team. The good news is that with Frazier now being able to get a medical redshirt, he can play next year and we lose literally no starter (we lose only Nick Colella)
