I still wouldn't be excited over Virginia and Georgia Tech. I wanted another big time program.

These moves aren't meant to excite fans; they're meant to make TV money, which is what sports is all about now anyway.
The Big Ten is a cable network parading as a sports league.

"Apparently" Georgia Tech has said that they want to be the 14th team if Maryland accepts. I don't think that's worth much, however.

I know they don't care what we think, but I'm going to hope for moves that give us better teams.

Supposedly GT will bring a whole bunch of eyeballs. I read that on the interwebs somewhere.

Theoretically they'd bring the Atlanta market.

Yeah Scotty and I better develop thick skin because mostly everyone is killing us for this outside of the Rutgers circle. It's a lot of people who don't know what they're talking about though.

Big Ten won't take GT. They have always been very adamant about the team's fit geographically in addition to the money. MD and Rutgers were fits because their states touched Pennsylvania. Virginia touches MD so that can work as well. Just my $.02.

I'd welcome Rutgers to come in and compete with the Purdues of the conference.

We'd absolutely be in the middle right now but this will help even more with recruiting. We already recruit top 40 classes and this will only help.

Rutgers getting good at football has certainly hurt Penn State. They used to own NJ and NY, Rutgers has slowly and surely won more and more former Penn State locks.

Personally, I'd love Virginia being added for selfish reasons as my brother works there and it would make a fantastic road trip.
Love that campus and region. Beautiful place. Doubt that it would happen due to the experience the last time there was ACC expansion involving Virginia Tech and the state throwing a hissy fit if VT wasn't going to get into the ACC.
I could see what you are saying with GT, but it really isn't any further from most schools in the B1G than MD. Also, GT is a fantastic school, which makes it closer in line with the B1G profile than most schools.
Still, I'm surprised that the B1G wants MD. I didn't realize that they would really add that many eyeballs. A pretty crappy football team and a very good basketball team with a fiscally distressed AD doesn't excite me. Delaney knows what he's doing, however, so I'll blindly trust the move.

Maryland brings the DC and Baltimore markets which are very large. Yes the team isn't that good right now but that's being short sighted. Like Rutgers they could be a force on the field and especially now with the extra revenue.

They've been bankrolled by Under Armour in the ACC and continually suck. They get destroyed in the DMV area in recruiting by FSU and VT. Going to the B1G will do nothing but keep them at about the level of Minnesota.

Rutgers used to get killed also and look how we turned it around. They closed out big last year by getting Diggs and now they can use Big 10 to recruit.

Living in MD, many of the MD fans are excited to "get out from Duke bias" for basketball. They have always felt that Duke/UNC get all the ACC pub and bias and they get screwed because of it. Cuse and Pitt additions were "going to make it worse" and they will "dominate the B1G in basketball." So yea, the fanbase seems excited about their basketball prospects. In terms of football, Penn State already recruits the DMV better than Maryland does but I'm scared about that opening up to the rest of the B1G (namely Ohio).

Our BoG doesn't have to accept if AD Tim Pernetti says yes.

This isn't even remotely true, and is based on nothing but a myth about contiguous states that won't go away.
Georgia Tech has been, and will continue to be, strongly considered.
