Who knows what is going to happen, if the Big 10 can take a lemon like Maryland, anything is possible.
North Carolina or Virginia would seem like viable Big 10 possibilities. Money is ruling college football, so North Carolina probably doesn't care if they stay close to Duke. The Big 10 only wants State Schools. Florida St. also could be up for grabs.
The Big 12 which gives more TV money to Texas and Oklahoma will always be a target for a raid because the other schools resent it. That's why Texas A&M, Missouri, Colorado and Nebraska left.
When it is all said and done, a lot of the schools that transferred will wake up one day and realize that for money, they sold out their chances to ever again compete for a National Title.
One outcome might then be a real playoff including 16 teams as the larger conferences complain about only getting 1 spot in a 4 team championship playoff.
One positive outcome will probably be, more teams forced to play tougher schedules to accommodate larger conferences. There may be less ridiculous games.

The B1G would never touch FSU's academics.

I would wonder whether or not the PAC-12 might retaliate by trying to get 2 schools of their own and keep pace with the B14G.

Unless they went after Texas and OU, who could the Pac 12 reasonably go after that adds any value to their conference?

Big 10 might now go after UNC, UVA, or G. Tech I read.

FSU is actually ranked higher than Rutgers by some publications.

The Commonwealth of Virginia would only split up UVA and VT if VT had an SEC invite, they pulled way too many strings back in 2003 to get VT in the Big East over Syracuse.
UNC and Duke will always be joined at the hip.
Georgia Tech makes sense.

Interesting, still don't see the B1G taking FSU under any circumstances. I also don't think FSU is sticking around to watch the ACC burn, B12 is the most likely landing spot. Some are reporting rumors the SEC may be interested in taking FSU and Clemson as a package deal which would be a final death blow for the conference.

Agreeing with most of what MassNole is saying here.
FSU would need to be an AAU member or close to being one. They aren't. Highly unlikely the B1G would consider them.
FSU to the Big12 or SEC is likely. Probably a package deal with Clemson.

Sorry but there is a scramble on today because nobody wants to be left behind in the race for more money. Tradition has gone the way of the horse and buggy any every college team wants to insure its economic future.
5 years ago I would have agreed with you but today it is a different story and nothing is set in stone where money rules the day. An ACC school makes far less money that a SEC, Big 10, Pac 12 and even a Big 12 school rakes in. UNC and Virginia would jump in a minute if they get an offer, ditto for Florida St.
I think it is a sad era in collegiate sports but unfortunately, that is the reality.

Nobody knows the troubles I've seen.
If only the Big East could realize how much there conference sucked and just signed a TV deal, last year.
Big East is still controlled by those private basketball schools.

If L'ville does go to the Big 12, and SEC starts poaching the ACC. Do the reaming Big East and ACC schools just merge? Would suck for Flordia schools, but ACC name would actually make some sense then,(then again who care about names its about $$).
Thats with Boise and other western teams bailing.

Congrats to all Rutgers fans for getting into a good conference. Definitely great for your school. Not sure Rutgers and Maryland add much of anything to the B1G but congrats nonetheless.

Not in terms of research, which is where the real money and prestige is. A school like William & Mary is a wonderful private institution for undgergrads, but it's not a big research hub, which is what the B1G prides itself on.

Not to mention we just got our medical school back and will be joining the CIC which will vault us right back up the superficial US News rankings.
This is by far the one of the biggest weeks ever at the school between the med school and the Big 10. It's definitely up there with Col. Rutgers donating his money to save our floundering school and when we became the public state university of NJ. This is so much more than just athletics.

That's all they add, TV money is calling the shots, neither school adds one bit to the athletic programs of the Big 10, just 2 teams which will be bottom feeders for quite awhile. Just shows how far the Big 10 has sunk in football, that these are the only 2 programs they could add.
As a Big 10 fan, I see nothing in this for me, just money for the schools. Yeah, I'll get to watch Ohio St. and Michigan play Rutgers and Maryland every year, how exciting is that.

The added money will make your team better, if spent wisely.
Also, as far as the weakness of the Big Ten goes, I think this reflects more accurately what's left more than anything else. People that expected them to add Notre Dame or Texas don't understand the economics of any of this.

This. The B1G would add ND and UT in a heartbeat as long as they wanted to come in as equals.
That will never happen, for many reasons.
I think the B1G, Big12 and SEC pick up strategic teams from the ACC with the B1G and SEC getting a Virginia school, the SEC getting an NC school, and the B1G getting an NC or Georgia school.
The Big12 would take an SC and florida school. And maybe a KY or Ohio school from the Big Least.

They would have loved either of those 2 schools, neither was interested because they both are in favourable financial situations and simply don't need the Big 10.
I think there was some panic in the Big 10 with the Penn St. situation and they wanted something done now. The ACC had quite a few schools that look a lot better than these 2 although Rutgers might actual benefit enough from joining the Big 10, to recruit better players and become competitive, time will tell. I see no hope for Maryland.

Our recruiting class this year was better than all but 2 schools according to most of the recruiting sites. If this helps then even better!
