Mangino is a fat, entitled, piece of ****. He's also overrated. One good year at Kansas is fine and all, but Glen Mason also won 10 games at Kansas, went to Minnesota, and was thoroughly mediocre (and he wasn't a giant waste of space and air).

**** Mangino. I hope he gets the job and loses 20 games in a row.

Gruden on Tennessee job;

Quote:
This morning on Mike & Mike, Gruden appeared for his weekly Wednesday segment during football season. They opened the segment half-jokingly asking Gruden about this particular story, including the portion about the Browns. You can listen to the full segment with Gruden right here. His response to, "Is there any truth to this whatsoever?"

"No there isn't. Uh...I should probably tell my wife that because it does involve her and my kids. But no, there's no truth to that, I'm just excited about Monday Night Football and getting ready for the Giants and the Redskins."

Mike Greenberg then followed up with some joke about getting a cabinet position in the Tennessee government, and Gruden interrupted them to say:

"I mean, I just...I apologize, I really don't have time to get into all that stuff. I like what I'm doing, I'm just trying to hang on to the job I have to be honest with you. So let's leave it at that, and get into the real nuts and bolts of the Mike and Mike show."

So, in the continuing saga of hearing what you want to hear...on the one hand, Gruden denied the report and said there's no truth to it. On the other hand, there could be no truth to the Memphis report specifically (and/or the Browns portion); Gruden could be denying the report and not denying interest. And the way he quickly and somewhat awkwardly wanted to move on to the next topic? Sounds like a page right out of the "Something is going on here" playbook.

http://www.rockytoptalk.com/2012/11/...-on-espn-radio
I came to the opposite conclusion as this article, that Gruden isn't interested. But we'll see.

WRT the rumor that Les Miles is being courted by Arkansas:
ESPN sends out memo to not credit Sports By Brooks.

Absolutely effing hate ESPN. I wish every sporting league would go elsewhere. They are horrible outside of broadcasting games.

The problem with Minnesota fans is that you seem to dislike Mason while he delivered the best seasons to the school for the past 40 years and is one of the best coaches there ever.

Mediocre is all you are going to get up there, methinks.

I don't dislike Mason, but I recognize him for the mediocre coach that he is. One of the best coaches there ever is a very relative term, as Minnesota was a dominant program before televisions were in color.

Anyway, there's no reason why Minnesota can't reach Iowa levels of occasional quality seasons with mediocrity in between. Purdue gave Danny Hope four years for essentially accomplishing the same thing Mason did in 10. In terms of resources, support, money, etc., Minnesota is a superior program to Purdue.

There's a reason he has never been offered a BCS job since he was fired.

Fair enough, but Minnesota was only dominant back before the 50s, with a few spurts in the 50's and early 60's.

Harvard and Yale were dominant at the same time as well.

I suppose that "Les Miles to Arkansas" thing was just a contract ploy, Miles got an extension and raise with LSU. numbers TBA.

Harvard and Yale don't have an 80 million dollar athletic budget.

Because they de-emphasized football a long time ago.

Minnesota SHOULD be a powerhouse if they ever uncheapified and spent some serious money on a great coach. Someone that can recruit nationally.
