Sadly, they are really well written compared to alot of the homework I see daily.

I had a student argue with me for 10 minutes that I'ma isn't a proper contraction.

Street language and "internet speak" are more commonly found in their written work than proper English.



Makes me presume the analogy joke is actually created as a joke. Those that have that little grasp of what an analogy is, probably wouldn't write as well and descriptively as those examples.

I was shocked when my English professor *in college* had to address the entire class regarding the ridiculous things she saw on papers. She spent half an hour on stupid mistakes like "a women." I didn't even know that kind of stupidity was possible past 3rd grade.

I'd be willing to bet that a majority of the kids I work with daily cannot consistently write a complete sentence properly. I'm not even mentioning spelling.

Many cannot do single-digit multiplication without calculators. Truly sad.

Accountability. Kids can't learn if they're never given the structure to not only want to learn, but be made to learn. Alot of kids simply do not care about school and many teachers' hands are tied because they can't force them. What are they going to do? Tell their parents? Their parents typically could care less. Truly sad. Future is not bright for many.

It is not so much that the intelligence has gone but that the unintelligent ones are loud, numerous, boisterous, ostentatious, and they don't care one way or another.

I know for me it did. And to be honest, I hated it when teachers tried to teach us shortcuts in math. A lot of the time I had already figured out a different way to see the numbers that helped me better. I would rather just learn the match from the teacher and I'll figure out a pattern in the numbers on my own.

Your teachers never taught you that? What assholes! My 2nd grade teacher taught us all the tricks. And once we were able to do each of the 1-9 multiplication tables correctly in under two minutes, she bought us a banana split.

You know there is an incredibly easy way to do 9* 1-10 on your hands alone.

Put up both hands, put down the finger that corresponds to the number to are multiplying and count the fingers before the down finger that's the 10 column and the fingers after are the ones.

So lets say 9*3... Put down your left middle finger leaving you two fingers before the downed finger and 7 after for an answer of 27.

Yeah. When we got the one table, we got a picture of a bowl. Then when we got twos, we got a banana, then a few scoops of ice cream, then whipped cream, hot fudge, and then finally when we got the 9 table, we got a cherry on top. And when the picture was completed, we were given a coupon for a free banana split. Loved that teacher!
