Calling who some people have as a top 50 prospect simply a "Single A pitcher" is disingenuous at best.

And he's only entering his 2nd year as a pro (take that as you will, could be good or bad)
Keith Law says that he's a big fan of the move for the Twins. Not going to straight copy/paste an article from behind a paywall, but here's a few excerpts that may ease some people's concerns.

I can see all of those concerns and do think there's a chance Meyer ends up in relief, but I'm also somewhat optimistic that he can remain a starter -- and if he does, he'll likely be a very good one, pitching near the top of a rotation.

There's a good enough chance that he starts that I'd hate to give him up for three years of a league-average centerfielder unless my club was an immediate contender -- which the Nats are.

Looks like 2 years for 17 million for Martin, though nothing is confirmed.

Felix has a very team friendly contract and is the most beloved player on that team. They won't be trading him...well not this year at least

They would if they got a monster package. The Dodgers cannot offer that, barring them trading Kershaw.

Ethier + $75M would probably get it done.

As much as I'd love Felix on the Dodgers the best they could do would be something like Ethier/De Gordon/Zach Lee/Pederson plus absorbing some contracts. Dodgers lack top tier prospects so I don't really see it, but I guess this new ownership group seems determined.

They would have to eat all of Ethier's contract as well as throwing in Gordon, Lee, Pederson, and probably Puig as well.

Absorb what contracts? The Mariners don't have any massive contracts. And Dee Gordon sucks, pls stop pretending he'd be a worthwhile piece.

No it's not. It's an accurate statement of fact. It's a risky proposition to give away an already good player with a very manageable contract for one prospect that hasn't proven himself beyond single A. This is why most trades involve multiple prospects.

He's an average CF, his contract is manageable because he isn't all that great. I think this is a fair trade from both sides.

A player of Denard Span's caliber isn't going to fetch multiple top prospects. HE's a solid player with a reasonable contract, not an impact player. Twins could have done worse. They got a top 50-75 prospect who immediately becomes their top pitching prospect in their farm for a league average player. I'm not seeing what the big deal is. Looks like a good deal for both teams

He had a WAR of 3.9 last year, 9th among CF (higher than BJ Upton). I'd say he's comfortably "good".

That was his first good year in 3 years.
He's one of my favorite players, but he's probably just a bit above average.

He's averaged 3.2 WAR in his five years in the league. Span is a very respectable CF, he's under a very good contract for the next three years, and he's 28. That's a valuable asset.

Yeah I get that, I just don't like the idea of trading a useable player for one prospect that hasn't played in an advanced league yet. If Meyer was the frontpiece of this trade with a few smaller assets involved I'd feel more comfortable. Or if they traded for a player that had proved himself in AA.
It's not a big deal, I just think they could have done better.

Yeah... Yankees could not match that price.
Mo is still the Yankees for up to 15m a season.

Some people think the Yanks could have matched it. I'm not crazy about the money, but I'm OK with the overall contract details.
