The new college playoff is going to be a disaster.

Expanding to four teams is a good idea. Leaving it up to voters is not. Computers > Humans

I didn't know, they won't reveal the algorithms. That does sound like some shady business.

Hogwash.
Take the top 25 polls after week 4 (before league play begins for most teams) and compare it with Sagarin's top 25. I'd put money on him being right more than the polls at the end of the season. The conference commissioners and ADs are transparently more biased and corrupted. If there's a flaw of bias in the computers it is easily correctable over time.

A lot of fans think this playoff is going to be so much better but they are wrong. The basketball tourney has 68 teams, this playoff has 4. And people still ***** about teams being left out. The difference is instead of complaining about a 22-16 team in 7th place in the ACC, we'll be complaining about 12-1 winners of the PAC-12 getting left out. It's going to be a mess and just a smidgen better than the current system.

Big 5 conference champs, with best record and computer rank, should play in the 4 spots.
Just so its not 3/4 SEC teams in the playoffs.

It should be EVERY conference champion plus at large teams to get to 16. Any playoff that excludes 50% of the teams no matter what is no better than the current system.

Waste of time. Basketball is a different deal than football. I don't need to see Utah State vs. Alabama when I know Alabama will win that game 99% of the time.

Nice arm on Nova. Should have been a TD.

There is no difference. Out of 224 games, 16 & 15 seeds have won all of 6 times in the basketball tournament. Those are crappy conference winners against the elite teams. The disparity between Duke and UNC-Asheville in basketball is probably greater than the difference between Alabama and Arkansas State.

I would be perfectly fine if they got rid of the 13-16 seeds in the basketball tourney as well.
But the reason why it is different is that you need a week to rest between football games. It's a waste of time to stretch the season out one additional week simply to pacify some concept of fairness. If a MAC team wants to win the national championship, it's not too much to ask them to sweep their conference.

Meh, I don't think time is an issue. Like this season, start the playoffs December 15th. Elite 8 on the 22nd. Final Four on the 29th. Championship on January 5th. No extension of the season.
And even if there are additional games, high school and lower division teams play 15 games including playoffs. Why can't FBS?

I don't know. I don't give a **** about high school or the FCS playoffs, so I don't base my ideal model off of what they do.
I'm generally in favor of whatever I think benefits the players the most, and I don't think the national champion should have to play 17 games. 15 is too many as it is.
If we cut out the OOC games to expand the playoffs I'd be fine with that, but I still don't really see the need.

Well, I think the argument is moot anyways. After they see how much money the four team playoff makes, it's only a matter of time until it is expanded to 8.
