The scheme is perfect for Rivers' skillset though. I think it has more to do with the fact that the good players that fit that scheme no longer play there or have diminished skills.

If Smith is gone, Chargers will take top talented OL in the first round for first time in many years. Chargers have enough talents to win 9 games but they need coaching that push the team for best result.

Rivers stays no matter who is HC. If Chargers are idiotic enough to hire HC who wants different quarterback then they should trade Rivers to Jets.
