Default New Mock

1. Jacksonville Jaguars select Star Lotulelei, DT Utah – in most years the Jags may be tempted to move on at QB. However, are any of the draft eligible QBs clearly better than Gabbert?
2. Kansas City Chiefs select Tyler Wilson, QB Arkansas – the Chiefs don’t have the luxury of not selecting a QB. They could go after either Alex Smith or Matt Flynn, but they aren’t long term answers
3. Oakland Raiders select Bjoern Werner, DE FSU – pick a position out of a hat and you will likely find a need position in Oakland. With the LT spot being one of the only bright spots they pass on Joeckel to take the dynamic Werner to rush off the edge
4. Arizona Cardinals select Geno Smith, QB WVU – The Cardinals have rolled out he worst LT in the league all season and Luke Joeckel would be a monumental upgrade. However, Kevin Kolb hasn’t shown anything since coming from Philadelphia and the combination of Lindley and Skelton will make any fan sick
5. Carolina Panthers select Luke Joeckel, OT Texas A&M – the Panthers offensive line used to be a strength of the team. Cam Newton’s success depends on having an explosive running game. Joeckel is the full package at LT
6. Tennessee Titans select Ezekiel Ansah, DE BYU – the Titans find themselves in a tough spot here and may “reach” on the freakish Ansah.
7. Detroit Lions select Manti Te’o, LB Notre Dame – the Lions need some major help on defense. More than just talent they need discipline and leadership. Te’o has both in spades, not to mention a whole lot of talent
8. Philadelphia Eagles select Jake Matthews, OT Texas AM – The second Aggies OT goes off the board in the top 10. With Nick Foles likely earning himself a starting job the Eagles need to work on protecting him. Depending on Jason Peters’ health Matthews can play either OT spot
9. Cleveland Browns select Chance Warmack, OG Alabama – the Browns finally have a identity and a young core of players (except Weeden) to build around. But the Browns will go as far as Trent Richardson can take them and the blocking needs to be strong up front. Adding Warmack to a line of Joe Thomas, Alex Mack and Mitchell Schwartz gives Cleveland hope for the future
10. Buffalo Bills select Barkevious Mingo, DE LSU – The Bills signed two high profile DEs in the offseason, Mark Anderson and the $100m man Mario Williams. Williams has come on strong recently, however Anderson has been a huge disappointment. Mingo is raw, but his explosive and upside are tremendous and he would find himself with a lot of favourable matchups along that line.
11. New Orleans Saints select Sheldon Richardson, DT Missouri – Former top ten pick Sederick Ellis has turned into a big disappointment in New Orleans and as a whole the defensive line has underwhelmed. The Saints would be best placed to pick their top rated defensive lineman, which at this stage would likely be Richardson.
12. Miami Dolphins select Keenan Allen, WR Miami – The Dolphins have made it clear they are looking to add a top flight wideout in the offseason. Brian Hartline and Davone Bess are very good players but neither are the type to really worry defensive coordinators. Allen give Tannehill a very good #1 target.
13. San Diego Chargers select Taylor Lewan, OT Michigan – whoever the Chargers new decision makers are they need to help Philip Rivers out with better protection. Lewan is a big, physical blocker who can protect the blindside
14. New York Jets select Damontre Moore, LB Texas A&M – Moore could go way higher than this but falls simply due to his fit. In Rex Ryan’s defense he could be a terror
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Dee Milliner, CB Alabama – The Bucs need some help at CB and Milliner looks to be separating himself from the rest at the position
16. St Louis Rams select Eric Fisher, OT Central Michigan – The Rams have played themselves out of the top flight OTs, however Fisher is an underrated player who should climb up boards
17. Pittsburgh Steelers select Jarvis Jones, LB Georgia – the Steelers always seem to pick guys who should go a lot higher in the draft. If not for a spinal condition Jones could be a top 5 pick
18. Dallas Cowboys select Jonathan Cooper, OG UNC – The Cowboys interior line has been shambolic at times this season. Cooper is a top OG prospect who is flying under the radar due to Chance Warmack
19. St Louis Rams f/Washington Redskins select Tavon Austin, WR WVU – Jeff Fisher knows that Sam Bradford needs more help to succeed. He also knows that his best WR is constantly hurt and likely going to leave in free agency. Austin is like a rich man’s Danny Amendola
20. Minnesota Vikings select Justin Hunter, WR Tennessee – with Percy Harvin injured it has become obvious the Vikings don’t have a credible passing game. Given Harvin’s history with migraines it would be best to help Ponder out. Adding a boundary threat should also open things up down the seam for Kyle Rudolph
21. Chicago Bears select Barrett Jones, OL Alabama – to put it simply the Bears need offensive line, offensive line and offensive line in that order. Jones is a versatile leader who can help out straightaway
22. Cincinnati Bengals select Eric Reid, S LSU – the Bengals could use an upgrade at the safety spot. No safety in this class is a can’t miss prospect, however Reid should solidify the back end
23. Seattle Seahawks select Tyler Eifert, TE Notre Dame – the Seahawks have a tremendous defense and a franchise signal caller. They also have one of the best RBs in football. This draft should be about shoring up the offensive line and getting more receiving options
24. Indianapolis Colts select Dion Jordan, LB Oregon – Jordan falls inexplicably to the Colts who happily snap him up. A versatile weapon only scratching the surface as a pass rusher he will fit in well in Indy’s hybrid defense
25. Baltimore Ravens select CJ Mosley, LB Alabama – the Ravens defense needs some serious young talent. Gone are the days of the swarming, smothering defense and now they are leaking like a sieve
26. Green Bay Packers select Xavier Rhodes, CB FSU – the Packers’ defense is one of the reasons why they have had their struggles this year. Another one is they can’t protect Rodgers, however with no offensive lineman worth the pick they go with the best available DB
27. New England Patriots select Jonathan Hankins, DT Ohio State – Bill Belichick has a real love of massive DTs who can move. He also has a tremendous relationship with Urban Mayer. Hankins would go far higher if he played with more intensity
28. Atlanta Falcons select Sam Montgomery, DE LSU – The Falcons need someone to take some of the burden from John Abraham as a pass rusher. Montgomery is a good all round end who was projected as a high first rounder earlier in the year
29. Denver Broncos select Johnthan Banks, CB Mississippi State – The Broncos offense looks to be clicking on all cylinders under Peyton Manning and the defense isn’t far behind. However, Champ Bailey isn’t getting any younger and a future starter could be needed
30. New York Giants select Kawann Short, DT Purdue – the Giants are always a good bet to look towards the defensive line early. Their rotation of linemen is a big reason why they always come on strong towards the end of the year because their pass rushers can stay fresh
31. Houston Texans select Robert Woods, WR USC – Andre Johnson has had a resurgent second half of the year, however he is in his 30s and has battled hamstring injuries in the past. The Texans need to be able to stay balanced on offense and adding another WR should help with that
32. San Francisco 49ers select John Jenkins, DT Georgia – the 49ers could really do with getting younger along the defensive line, be it at 5 tech or on the nose. The only logical choices at this point are Jesse Williams and John Jenkins with Jenkins getting the nod

I don't mind going defense again, but CB is one of the deeepest positions on the team right now with Tramon Williams, Shields, Hayward, and House. DL is an option since Pickett is getting up in years and Neal just can't stay healthy. FS also, however I get the feeling the coaching staff likes some of the youth there behind Woodson as well. And I won't ever complain about getting more guys that can get to the QB because without Clay, who seems to miss a couple games a season with some kind of hamstring injury, the pass rush is non-existent

Chance Warmack? Hell ******* yes. Maybe Trent would have far less of these 20 carries for 73 yards games.

yeah, I'm not really on board with Hankins for the Patriots. I just don't see the effort and consistency that BB typically values. On top of that he offers little or nothing in the pass rushing department. He has a nice ceiling and great size, but I'm just not feeling it. I would love to get Corey Lemonier though. He has good size, his motor is non-stop, he's athletic. Basically he's what our defense needs to generate consistent pass rush.

Here's what we know about Belichick; he doesn't always draft for need and usually goes for value, he isn't going to draft a role player early (diminishing a penetrating DT IMO unfortunately), he loves having two massive DTs because the strength of his defenses have always been through the middle, he will often draft guys who have played under coaches he has connections with (as I stated he has very close ties with Meyer and took Hernandez, Cunningham, Spikes etc from Florida).

Unless he sees real value in bringing in a strong side end, and let's not forget he loves Ninkovich then I don't see him going that way early. Lemonier's a nice prospect but he is a guy who can be had in the second and maybe even the 3rd round IMO

I really doubt that. He's very much a first round prospect in my mind. He's getting overlooked because Auburn has been ****** this year, but he's the only guys who's played well. He fits all the criteria that BB usually has for a pass rusher. Also, I believe that BB likes the Love/Wilfork combo he has in the middle. They have Deaderick who's been decent as well, although hot showing up on the stats sheet a whole lot. I do believe that BB wants to upgrade the defensive tackle position, but I don't see him doing it in the first round unless the value is exceptional. I don't think Hankins' value is that at 29.

For sure he could be, especially at this early stage value is subjective. This is where I would disagree on both counts. I wouldn't have Lemonier rated as highly as you and I most definitely think that Hankins offers outstanding value towards the end of the 1st

I guess we have to agree to disagree. I wouldn't want Hankins, at least not in the first round. There's a lot of things to like about him, but his motor and lack of pass rushing skills really gives me a negative vibe about him. I think he's a 3-4 NT.

Given how the board falls and it looks like you don't value Barkley super high I would be alright with that.

Why is that likely?

Injuries and the fact that they have 4 young talented WRs on the roster, which is why I doubt the Rams draft a WR in the 1st next year too though.

4 young talented WR's? Seriously? I will give you Givens and I am hoping Quick becomes one, but who are the other 2? Pettis and Gibson are serviceable, but hardly considered young and talented. The Rams can't afford to lose Amendola. He means so much to the offense. When he's healthy, it's an entirely different offense.

Give the Panthers Jesse Williams or Will Sutton in the 2nd round and that's a great draft.
