Who Are the Best Prospects Whose NFL Careers Were Derailed Due to Injury?
Curious about draft history. I know about Ki-Jana Carter and some of other high-profile ones, but I'm interested in hearing some names who I might know if not for being injured early in their NFL/late in their college careers.

Does Bo Jackson count? David Pollack comes to mind as well.

Brian Price is hardly one of the best prospects to have his career derailed. Read the thread title.

LOL. Yeah this should basically be 1st round picks only. Players who were injured in college and drafted later like Da'Quan Bowers should be left out too!

Yeah. Someone like Ki-Jana Carter is the prime example, going first overall, destroying his knee immediately and never being the same. That's about as bad as it gets, but I'm sure there are numerous similar stories. I'm thinking of Marcus Lattimore, too, who is a complete question mark at this point after being considered a sure first rounder at one point in his college career.

I wouldn't say his career was derailed. Stunted a bit, for sure.

As far as first round picks go, Jahvid Best is the only one in recent memory. Rashard Mendenhall is looking like the injury from last year may be his undoing but obviously his career isn't over yet. Not sure if he was a bust prior to the injuries, but Jeff Otah was a first rounder who's career is basically over due to injuries the last couple of seasons, didn't pass his physical when Jets tried to trade for him this off season

Obviously Sean Taylor's career was cut too short. Some others i would have liked to have seen play longer:
Ernie Davis
Gale Sayers
Brian Bosworth
Tony Boselli
Darryl Stingley
Mike Utley

He had a cup of coffee with the Rams in the early 90s but it didn't amount to much.

I would have loved to have seen Al Wilson play a longer, more healthy career.

In recent memory, the one that stands out to me was Justin Harrell. Kid had the potential to be Ndamukong Suh with his head screwed on straight, but a series of injuries (bicep, knee, ultimately back) ended his NFL career. Once you lose your back, you don't have a lot else.

That's a good one that I hadn't heard of. Selected in the first round, gains 1400+ yards from scrimmage and 12 TDs as a rookie, goes to Hawaii as part of Pro Bowl festivities, destroys knee in a rookie All-Stars flag football game, The End. Wikipedia tells me he almost had to have to lower half of his leg amputated.

What happened to LaVar Arrington? Wasn't he a top 5 draft pick?
