I pissed off a few Jaguars fans by Tweeting that the next coach will be Josh McDaniels. But I actually believe there is a strong chance that he is.

McDaniels pretty much quashed any rumours earlier in the week. I don't think he's going anywhere for at least another year

Chargers flying into NY to interview Ross now also. He really has pick of his job.

They'll get him if they want him. No job is perfect, but Ross has learned under some smart people. He's know he needs to pick the coach. He knows he needs a QB. And San Diego will have that. If they had a better owner, he'd be 3 for 3. That is the most desirable spot for him thats available now.

The rumors are that the owner Khan has a hard on for Tebow if that is true I could see him making a hard move for McCoy. Good luck finding a GM though.

They sold out the stadium and actually removed the tarp over 10,000 seats when he came to play there as a backup. Imagine what it would be like for them if he were their starting QB?

Yeah, some guy posted an article with McDaniels said he was staying in New England. But how many times have we heard that? Coaches are up there with politicians and lawyers in terms of lying ability

Why do NFL teams routinely consider hiring ex-head coaches for the simple fact that they were head coaches, ignoring how absolutely horrible they may have been as a head coach?

Uh, no. The Jags have an average attendance of 63,000. 63,600 were present for Tebow's game.

Because bringing in guys who have never done it before is a massive projection. GMs are like head coaches. In general they will get a few years and one mistake to do over. Hiring a coordinator to become head coach is as much of a projection as drafting a QB. They would often rather go the "safe" route than gamble on an up and comer who has no relevant experience.
We have seen it with so many guys who just couldn't make it as head coaches when moved from coordinator. Be it they are too focused on one side of the ball, poor leaders, poor motivators, can't handle the workload, or have huge egos where they think they can fix the offense/defense regardless of personnel and therefore neglect it. Previous head coaches know what it takes to be a head coach.
Plus, guys fail in the NFL all the time. It doesn't make them bad at their jobs. By that logic Bill Belichick would never have become the head coach of the Pats

McDaniels is a very highly paid OC, and most likely is the successor if BB chooses to retire in the next few years. He could take a crappy job in Jacksonville or he could wait, and get a shot with a much better organization in the future.

I wasn't saying that no team should hire anyone who was fired as a head coach. I was saying it makes no sense to me that they still consider those who were fired for being absolutely horrible. I can understand why someone would be interested in Belicheck, Saban or now Reid. I can't understand why someone would be interested in Josh McDaniels. Nothing about his time in Denver indicated any mitigating factors that would excuse how he so horribly managed and coached that team.

There was a mitigating factor, though. Some idiot blew up a perfectly good offense and drafted Tebowzzzz.
I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

Call me crazy but if the Browns don't bring in a QB I think McCoy can beat out Weeden in Chips offense. He doesn't need a runner but Weeden is a statue. McCoy doesn't have the arm to be a drop back pocket passer but I like his fit running something similar to the Oregon offense. Trent Richardson is also smiling

Joe Banner told Colt McCoy very recently that he was "part of the plan."
Take that for what it's worth.
It's also believed Kelly will bring very few, if any assistants from Oregon with him.

Ok, what coach are you talking about exactly then? Bellichick had 4 losing seasons out of 5 in Cleveland, and both guys had records around a 40% winning %. That's certainly not good.
Edit: See you mentioned Josh McDaniels. He was 11-17 with Denver. Mike Shanahan was 8-12 with the Raiders. That's essentially the same.

“Anything you do has to be personnel-driven,” Kelly said Wednesday. “You’ve gotta be able to adapt to the personnel that you have. There’s a lot of great offenses out there, but does it fit with the personnel you have? I think the key is being sure what you’re doing is giving your players the chance to be successful.”
|
I think Weeden could work for Kelly...he already knows he is going to have to adapt his offense to the pro level. Perhaps they'll run something similar to the Patriots spread ?
Personally I am more interested in what his staff will look like.
