Tried this last night. It was putrid. Took two sips and tossed it.
Also tried this. Just a typical winter ale, fairly bland to taste with barely any noticeable hints of any outstanding flavor.

bleh. i don't get the firestone love. it's a completely average, stock-standard IPA. there's nothing special. and their bipa is awful.

Firestone is much more about balance than beating you over the head with hops. Which while I don't think I've had any of your top 5 beers but if I'm a betting man they would do just that. Don't get me wrong it isn't the greatest beer everzzz but it is very good.
EDIT: Also if you are going to drink a bad beer, a good beer, and an average beer in the same night. NEVER drink the good beer first. it will just ruin the subsequent beers.

and i get where you're coming from (and while i like some really hoppy, non-malty beers; brent and hobbes would attest, the rogue wet hop isn't at all about beating you over the head with hops, as a quick example), i just don't see anything special about FW. it's like racer 5. which is fine, and drinkable, and still a good beer. but the brewery as a whole seems to have gotten this "best beer ever" reputation that i don't understand. i saw it a lot at gabf this year.

I'll admit as a whole the company has gotten a bigger reputation than it deserves probably but a few of their limited bottlings, like parabola, have been fantastic. I don't have much experience with their standard bottlings. The experience I do have with them has been fine but not amazing.

Yeah that's the one issue. Not sure I'll get it again for what it costs, but glad I tried it.

I actually have it quite a bit because it is semi frequently on tap here in NY at bars with average selections. It's either a Blue Moon for $6 or an Arrogant Bastard for $7-8. Easy call.

Yeah that's a gimme. I need to get into NY more often, close enough that I don't have a good excuse. Everything's expensive, though. Would never pay $6 for a Blue Moon.

Was at Gingerman on Saturday and had some damn good stuff. I had a Great Divide that was amazing but forgot the name of it already.

I am so glad to know that The Gingerman is a chain.

I don't think the one in NYC is part of a chain. Probably just a common name for a bar.

I think it may be connected to the one in Greenwich.
