Lovie & Norv ? I've been hearing Norv as Ray Horton's OC should Ray get a gig somewhere.

If that is the case, Horton should just get the Cardinals gig with Norv as the OC. I can't imagine Norv getting any more head coaching opportunities and he's been good enough in his past OC stops to keep getting HCing jobs...and the Cards need all the offensive help they can get.

I just linked this in the KC specific coaching thread, but since you asked:

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/1...ense-andy-reid

Decent breakdown of the KC personnel vs the 4-3

So what would they do with their 2012 first round draft pick Poe?

I was under the impression Tyson Jackson had played extremely well this season.

He got better but I in no way would say he played "extremely" well. He is set to make 14 million next season so he is good as gone with out a pay cut.

Poe on the other hand played very well for a rookie NT.

As for the Tamba 2? No thank you.

He is fine but I expect him to be gone for salary reason as Chiefs could retain Brandon Albert.

That article's wrong, though. As far as I know, no team really runs a Tampa 2 anymore. Chicago and Minny have both changed it so much that it's not Tampa 2 any longer; they just run 4-3 defenses. Chicago I know for sure is running man coverage and nickel packages on way too many snaps for it to be a T2.

It's not really viable in the NFL these days, I think, unless you build a defense with like 8 pro bowlers or something.

Tyson Jackson was one of the two lowest-rated 3-4 DEs in the league in pass rushing. He was about average against the run.

But that is half the reason to turn to the Tampa 2 if you ask me. When you go the same rout that so many other teams go it is harder to draft prospects that go with the scheme. If they go Tampa 2 they can watch Tampa 2 players drop far and deep. Plus if we do see the option return the speed of the front seven and the tackling ability of the CBs could be beneficial.

If you watched the Bears from about 07-09, you'd know why they started getting away from the pure Tampa 2. With the proliferation of spread techniques into modern NFL offenses, that defense was getting absolutely gashed. If you wanted to throw the 7 yard slant against the Bears, you could do it all damn day. And the worst was the 3rd and medium-long, where the offense could throw a screen and the RB would easily run for the first down before a Bear defender even appeared in front of him.

With the way offenses nowadays love to throw short to slot receivers and TEs, you just can't play off in zones anymore. You'll get eaten alive.

The only benefit you'd get from going T2 would be the ability to draft CB who can only play zone late. Everyone else from a T2 is still being drafted to normal 4-3 teams because they fit there.

The T2 is a dead scheme because today's offenses had destroying the T2 as one of the things in mind when they were designed.

Anyone running a T2 is going to get SHREDDED in the middle of the field.

The Cover 2 is not a dead scheme, the Giants used it in both their SB victories and quite a few teams switch to it whenever they play a strong passing team. Of course, it has evolved over the years with many new variations to confuse offenses. Teams have learned how to use the Cover 2 and still defend the middle of the field although disguise is still the best weapon for any defense.
The simple fact remains, unless you have superb CB's who are solid in man to man defense, the Cover 2 offers the best defense to stop the great QB's in the league if you want to shut down the deep passing game.

Cover 2 is not Tampa 2. Cover 2 is a coverage shell. Every team runs Cover 2 on some snaps. Tampa 2 is a system that runs a variation of Cover 2 on almost every snap of the game. It frequently uses the MLB in deeper pass coverage and rarely subs a third corner in for an OLB or SS. It runs this on almost every play. There's a big difference. Even 3-4 teams run Cover 2...but not Tampa 2.

The Giants most certainly do not do that, and neither does anyone else. Perry Fewell's defense is not T2. The Giants run a crapload of nickel. You can see the %s for every team on PFF. No one is T2 on the NFL level, anymore, whether the fans want to call it T2 or not. Running zone coverage =/= Tampa 2 defense.

...and today's strong passing teams are the last ones you want to run T2 on. They're the ones with the slot receivers, pass-catching RBs, and TEs to crush it.

I hate seeing people quoting IAC's posts cause then I can read them. At least that was a funny one, cause the giants absolutely did not run much cover 2 in their first superbowl win under spags, and switched to a more man based and simplified zone cover scheme last year for the playoff run.

Clearly, Chip could not see himself coaching those ugly brown uniforms compared to those flamboyant Ducks uni's. I hear it was the deciding factor.

Jaguars DC Mel Tucker too. Kinda scared of Pettine. Isn't he the guy responsible for all those leaks this year?

Marrone could bring on Pete Carmichael on as OC too.
