Cooper is probably the better athlete in the open field and could pull and trap from the RG. That is an added feature we really couldn't do with Bernadeau at guard and troubles at center.
That's a good point but the difference between DeCastro and Warmack is that Warmack is just physically a man beast. While DeCastro was heralded for his toughness and his work as a technician, there were some questions about his functional strength and doubts about him being able to overwhelm defenders. He was just an above-average athlete at the position, where Warmack is a freak.

As prospects

Iupati=Warmack>>>DeCastro

I'm not interested in spending our 1st round pick on a Safety. That class is just way too deep and there isn't an incredible difference between them.

Part of me wonders if we should trade our 1st this year for a 2nd this year and a 1st next year... great value in the 2nd and that 1st next year can be used to get Johnny Football. BOOYA.

Who would make that trade? Maybe to get a QB that they love, but not likely.

Would be nice to get some trade down action to get another day 2 pick. I think we're going Dline because the way Stephen Jones dismissed the idea of drafting Decastro last year, I don't think interior line are positions the franchise views as worthy of round 1. Then again, maybe this year made Jerrah a believer.

Yeah, it's not likely. Just a fun thought on how to get Manziel.

It's not that they don't think of them as important. They have just liked to address the need by spending FA dollars because they thought vets could step in right away, whereas rookies tend to need time. But they've never had a young LT to build around in the past either. That changes the thought process for the desire to have a young OL that can grow together for years and years to come.

Love the Cooper/Williams tie. I had the same train of thought when I mocked us with Warmack and Jones. Keep the cohesiveness going!

I think Lacy boosted his stock big time yesterday. Late 1st/2nd rounder now. Would absolutely love him though.

I think that game lowered te'o stock more than boosting lacy's.

At the of the day lacy will probably run a mid 4.6 and teams see him as between the tackles who has good lateral agility but not the ability to turn the corner consistenly. Plus he always been in a 2back system (i think teams are more aware of this when evaluating backs) and he has limited experience running routes and catching the ball but he does have the size be an excellent in pass protection

Im gonna put another 2nite before my offseason mock. Ive on other threads trying to get a sense of who teams might cut loose. I hope jacksonville eats the money and releases laurent robinson.

I definitely see you have DE/ OLB on your mind. Is this because you don't see Spencer coming back?

Dallas Mock 10 - 1/9/2013 -

Well nothing cheers me up like a bottle of Mock Draft Lite. So bottoms up! :)

(can't believe I had to dig back to page 6 to find my last mock....slackin'!)

I absolutely LOVE this draft.

I really like this draft too, re-establish the core of the defense with one of the best linebacking corps in the leauge if Te'o is available, re-stocking offensive line talent with two versatile guys who could potentially play g/t and pick up safety help.

Something I am really worried about is the D-line if we do make the switch to the 4-3. If Spencer leaves we have a huge hole at LE unless the team thinks that is Albright or Wilber's time to step up. At DT Lissemore/Spears can man the NT position, Hatcher isn't reallly a nose or 3-tech, is Crawford a 3-tech or a jumbo end, and will Ratliff even be back healthy or even on the team? The Wild Card would be Brian Price who was signed to a futures contract. He has someone I really liked coming out of the draft. He was so good at UCLA, could play either 3 tech or nose... stong and thick but could really fire off the ball.

If we lose Spencer, we're royally ****'d. I don't even want to imagine that scenario. Just franchise him again.

Losing Spencer would be not good. Franchise him and make him play hard again for a contract.

I absolutely LOVE this draft.
sigh if the cowboys take manti te'overrated i will cry first the time since middle school i like other picks overall. te'o cannot cover te's man to man and he got exposed too against bama. imo te'o is that old school mlb who is best when he has two 340 lb behemoths protecting him but against bama they weren't able to do that it showed he's not great at getting off blocks. in the end i think i would compare to rey malaluga and watching cin vs hou this weekend teams will do exactly what they did against malaluga to te'o attack him coverage and try isolate him in space as much as possible, the second would be better value for him and where he should be jsut like malaluga. if i were taking lb that high in this draft i'd target alec ogletree instead

thomas is good but he's more of finesse zone blocker like duane brown or sam baker and he's not really guard, he played out of position this year, but ur right this some versatililty there. idk where u got those measurements tho b/c looks more like 6'4 or 6'5 to me.

ive watched winters twice live he is real nasty like richie igcognito nasty he was always doing stuff to start a fight, but make no mistake about it he not going to be tackle in the nfl he's gonna be a guard he doesnt have the length to handle the de's in the nfl

Oh the measurements on Thomas are off. I was editing an older post and just forgot to edit that. Thomas isn't your classic mauler so I can see why you'd say that, but he reminded me a lot of DeCastro last year. Love the way he controls himself on the move. He's coordinated, technical...No sloppy feet, he pulls really well and knows how to hit his targets. He's got great knee bend and heavy hands and holds the point of attack at the LOS very well. I favored him at Guard because I never paid attention to him last year when he played tackle, but they made him play LT too, so we got some looks of that and he seems comfortable there too. If the Cowboys want a beefy power guy who can move mountains then Thomas isn't that, but ever since we took Tyron, he was so out of the box to what we had had in the past, that I've been trying to reinterpret what I thought the Cowboys would do going forward in building their OL. When we added Parnell, it only reinforced the idea in my mind that we would start to look for more of the athletic/technical type than the beefy/more slow footed type. But I dunno, I have different thoughts at different times, because when they hired Callahan, he definitely favored size in his past. Seeing them value Leary is probably a better sign. I can see the Cowboys having more interest in Thomas as a Tackle than Guard, I guess.

I could definitely be happy with something like this:

LT Smith
LG Livings
C Bernadeau/Costa/Cook battle
RG Winters
RT Thomas

This went longer than I imagined. Tired, will respond to the rest later.

I don't like Te'o's game in the NFL.

I don't think he will fail, by any means, but I think he will have some real struggles.

Finisher, that's a defensive heavy draft. I just don't see Garrett doing something like that with his neck on the line with basically a one year deal.

Brown went in round 1 of our currently running forum mock. TACKLE took him for the Ravens. That's a little high, but still, I don't think Brown reaches us in Round 3 at all. TJ is a cool pick in the 3rd. Robey is a little guy, but he's got some tenacity in him. I'd be down for him as a nickel back. I think he can stick with the shifty kind of slot WRs. Definitely not someone you want covering big physical WRs... but in the 4th round, you can start to look for players who can help you in specialized situations if you think they can play 15+ snaps a game.
