Actually, he passed Crabtree up because at the time he already had capable wideouts and figured drafting Crabtree would create a "not enough balls to go around" problemo. He drafted for need, and it was a wise choice, because AR can make most scrub receivers play decently

I said they had a craptastic offense in the context of the passing attacks(hence why I talked about GB's weapons with SF's). Running the ball doesn't really mean much these days. It's a passing league, and McCarthy understands this whereas JH and Greg Roman do not.

Tune in Saturday and you'll see which offense shows up. GB is also facing a much better defense than SF is facing. Yet, GB will still throw the ball all over the field while SF will be fooling around with ridiculous pistol read options.

Like in 2011 when we passed on Randall Cobb because we already had Jennings, Nelson, Driver, Jones and Finley?

JH and Greg Roman had the best college football Quarterback at Stanford, and still ran a boring power run scheme, rendering your point moot.

Cobb was a late 2nd round pick, versus a top 10 pick in Crabtree, and Cobb also had special teams value unlike Crabtree.

Comparison is terrible.

Quote:
When the Packers' 10-minute slot arrived, there were three names that they were seriously considering: Raji, Crabtree and Mississippi tackle Michael Oher. The Packers were extremely high on Oher as the No. 3 tackle, probably ahead of Virginia's Eugene Monroe, and viewed him as an immediate starter at right tackle. Then there was Raji, by far the best defensive tackle in the draft. In a moment of candor, Thompson conceded that it was a scenario he hadn't anticipated. Thompson said Raji and Crabtree had the same grade on the Packers' board. That's probably a matter of semantics, but people with knowledge of the Packers' thinking said Crabtree stood far and away as their pre-eminent player.

Yeah, College is actually MORE pass happy, yet JH still ran a boring offense with the best pro prospect in a decade.

If JH had Aaron Rodgers, Rodgers would be throwing the ball 20-25 times a game, not 30-35. That's no slight towards Rodgers, it's a slight on Harbaugh and Roman's rudimentary offensive philosophy.

Apparently you missed the domination by Alabama the past few years. Pass happy or not, it doesn't mean its going to win.

Yeah cause it would be criminal to use a top running back like Frank Gore.

Passing for 400 yards while not running the ball is obviously much better than running for 150 and passing for 250. Thats really so much difference in terms of production. You have to use your best players and in the Niners case there best player on offense is there Running back so you dont need to throw the bal all the time because you basically have no running back like the Packers.

I must have missed the part where Alabama had a stud pocket passer in the same realm as Luck.

Unless you're one of the ones that is hugely impressed with AJ Mccaron's ability to throw a screen? Yeah, probably. Lol.

I'm not sure what where Thompson had Crabtree ranked in 2009 has to do with who is the best now. Tom Brady was rated lower than Chad Pennington. So I suppose that means Pennington is the future Hall of Famer and Brady is a commentator for Fox?

Gore isn't a top back. He's slow, lost some of his power, and tires easily. He's not a liability, but I wouldn't have him in my top 10.

I'd also disagree about Gore being the best player on offense.

The context of me saying that was a doofus saying Crabtree would be the 5th wideout in GB. Looks like Ted Thompson would disagree with that(along with anyone who has a clue on how to evaluate talent)

Thompson could have had Crabtree rated as the best player to ever enter the NFL Draft, and that still wouldn't change **** about how good of a player he is now. Charles Rogers was highly rated by everyone who has a clue on how to evaluate talent, and he failed miserably. How they were viewed as draft prospects is irrelevant now.

Jennings and Nelson are so far ahead of Crabtree it's not even up for debate. Even among 49ers fans you might be the only one to disagree. Cobb and Crabtree is a little closer, but I'm still taking Cobb everytime. Jones and Crabtree are about even, I used the fact that Jones lead the NFL in TDs as a tie breaker, but they're interchangeable I suppose.

I don't care that Crabtree was viewed as a better prospect than all of them, he's not a better NFL player.

My trolling isn't very good because I'm not trolling. I have football knowledge, unlike the majority of you, and most of the **** I say sails right over your vacant heads.

As far as the 9er offense goes, I'm pretty sure I have more understanding of it in my left pinkie than you do.

Once again, Thompson had Crabtree rated high in 2009. That has absolutely no relevance to where he would be ranked TODAY among the receivers.

I think Crabtree is one of those players that got hated so much for not living up to expectations that he's now pretty underrated. He's had a pretty good year and his stats came up in a pretty bad offense for receivers because they run a lot. He's turned into Kapernick's favorite receiver for sure with Davis demanding a bunch of double teams this year. And frankly Gore hasn't run it that well lately, his YPC is around like 3.5 in the past five games or something.
