I think it's hilarious that people get upset about any nomination, or lack thereof. Except Nick Offerman. That dude deserves every award known to man.

The only award he wants is a bigger workshop....

I don't get mad, but for some reason I am always surprised at how bad the nominations are every year.

I am shocked people care, besides those who profit from any of the films.

Why? Lincoln was a pretty good film and deserves the praise it's getting. This film astounded me personally and I thought it was great to see Spielberg take on one of the most highly profiled figures in American history. It's a very slow paced film admittedly and those unfamiliar with America's nuances of it's democratic system may find the story a little confusing at first, but if you are a patient and informed film goer, the movie will reward you with a fantastic story. The honesty of the depiction of Lincoln is what I found most compelling. Daniel Day-Lewis' performance as Lincoln paints the audience a picture not along the lines of the legendary emancipator that folks have probably been lectured about in school over and over again, but more so a man that is consumed by his profession, neglectful of his family's affairs, and willing to exploit the American constitution or defy it to an end he believed in; not particularly interested in the freedom his emancipation rot upon the slave population all while being the soft-spoken man from Kentucky.
I think Spielberg and crew did a great thing focusing on the narrow scope on a particularly important aspect of Lincoln's life, lending the viewers time to get to know Lincoln more so as a man instead of becoming just a expensively made book report. There is also some contemporary relevance regarding the dangers of the bipartisan divide in American and how petty bickering between the two has been halting the progress of America for a lot longer than most people remember. Also, it was inspiring to see a movie that identifies holes within our very own constitution, ways of which the reign of government can be taken away from our people and shows us a man using those ways to a noble end.
Overall I thought this film was very thoughtful, bold, and inspiring and I see why there is a consensus opinion regarding it's praise.

Except bipartisanship back then lead to a civil war which ended slavery more than 50 years before it otherwise would have, so...kinda undermining their own point there...

True, and the end justified the means in that specific case, but I'm talking more than just one specific period in American history.

So I guess I'm the only one who felt that SkyFall was kind of a rip off of Dark Knight?
It was a good movie, I loved it, but the villain was just too much of a bootleg Joker to me.

Oh I don't buy the ends justifying the means argument at all, but I just think the historical relevance argument is terrible for this film for a **** ton of different reasons. I haven't seen the film to say whether it did anything interesting with Lincoln, who could be a good character if you focus on Lincoln, the crazy giant, instead of Lincoln the myth, but any arguments based on it's historical relevance ring hollow to me.

Yeah I didn't say IMMEDIATELY after you posted about it that Mendes admitted to being heavily influenced by The Dark Knight, or anything. Way to read.

For the insane amount of people involved that I love, I was a little disappointed in Seven Psychopahts. Entertaining, but not nearly on the level of In Bruges.

I agree that it wasn't as good as In Bruges but I still found it very entertaining. Walken was incredible.

Yeah, paying attention to a post directly relating to what you say...what a novel idea. You are worthless in this and the NBA thread, go back to being a know it all prick in the NFL section.

When did things get so catty on NFLDC? Everyone has been so damn bitter on these boards lately.

You stopped posting a lot, Joshy. We need to take little shots at you okay, or people get really tense and pissed off.

Seven Psychopaths was good enough, for me. Certainly not In Bruges, but few are. Still one of my favorites of the year.

I'm perfectly nice to people who take playful jabs at me (which is mostly what I do to you as long as you don't get person), as long as they aren't BBD.
And Seven Psychopaths was fine, mostly because Rockwell/Walken/Woody were great. Farrell was kind of blah.

Kinda disappointing in Django Unchained, was probably hyped up too much for me
Waltz was awesome as usual but Leo and Jamie Foxx didn't really impress me and dialogue wise it just wasn't up to par with other Tarantino films
also saw Seven Psychopaths was not at all what I expected the movie to be but was entertaining
