Well he's a dumbass. He could have made up those stories to make it seem that the relationship wasn't a cheesy internet relationship.
I don't know though. Just skimmed over the DS article.

which is why everything of leadership qualities and stuff can now be put to bed. no other pro is gonna listen to that kid for the next few years.
and that is assuming that his GF wasnt fabricated by him and that the activities he talked about were just to sound less dorky

He just put a statement on ESPN...and he talks about how it was a hoax and fails to mention anything about his visit with her in person...this doesn't look good for him.

Wait so, Te'o never even met this person? Was he the victim of a trickster?

In the original story he was quoted saying he met her personally at the Stanford game in 2009 and that she has visited him in Hawaii.

This is too good. I think I'm just going to drop all ND players off my boards for even looking up to the guy. This is so great! He'll be like the guys going to prison for abusing women. No matter what NFL team he goes to, he's going to be on the outside looking in.

He said he had. Multiple times. But now he's trying to say it was an online relationship. Too many inconsistencies right now that don't add up. Points to him being a very bad liar.

Te'o's statement;
Quote:
"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her.
"To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating.
"It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life.
"I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been.
"In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was.
"Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft."
|
EDIT: Looks like dabears beat me to it.

You have to read the article.
Te'o himself made claims about how the first time they ever met was in person, how they spent time together in Hawaii multiple times, how he talked to her on the phone every night, etc.

I'm starting to feel bad for him. He's either:
a) Rudy Cool and unwilling to admit it to himself or others
b) Delusional and possibly mentally ill
c) A totally sad sack pathetic human being.

True, but come on in the end Vontaze Burfict 127 tackles this year, undrafted rookie because of character issues, enough said. Te'o can play, simple as that. Sure might not be as good as everyone thought but who is usually....

Come on Manti... I wonder how he's gonna pick up a complex NFL defense as a middle linebacker. Smh

well usually if you draft a middle linebacker really high you want someone who you could picture being a team captain. that is just out of the question now even if the truth is as positive as it can be

I think he was duped into an online relationship, where he fell hard for a person he never met.
Then to make it seem less embarrassing, he made up some lies about how they met to make it seem like a real relationship. As the relationship went deeper, so did the lies bc it had to be a domino effect to keep the lie alive, and it just got worse and worse and worse.
He probably has confidence issues which led to all of this. It's kind of sad really.

October 17th interview with Jim Rome
http://audio.wgr550.com/a/64902446/1...-rome-show.htm
Jim Rome - "What was she like?"
Te'o - "Man, I can't describe her..."
well said

Haha, I like how he just blew it off like it was nothing at the end of his response by saying he's just focusing on the draft now.

I can see where if this version of events were true, some may says its just sad. But when it plays out to the point where this girl has apparently died, he's doing entire special dedicated to her, he's talking about how he's playing for her, its stops being said, its starts becoming manipulative. He almost surely has some mental issues we were previously unaware of, but that doesn't excuse for me how he then manipulated the hype.
I simply could never draft this guy as a face of my franchise, I could never draft this guy as the leader of my defense, I could honestly never really expect him to be respected by anyone in his locker room. Obviously the Panthers were never interested in Te'o in the first place, but I'd never want this guy on my team, regardless of where he was drafted. You can find other linebacking talent elsewhere.
