Just face it: The Jets are a huge mess right now. No way is a quality candidate going to let their career unfold in that mess. It's obvious they want to hand pick their coach. But I said it a few years ago, that the 2nd time they lost in the post season, against Pittsburgh, was their last shot at a Championship run because they did a poor job giving up draft picks for quality veterans they could not re-sign due to cap restrictions.
Now, here they are. They busted at QB in Sanchez after moving up into the top 5 for him. They missed on other selections: Muhamed Wilkerson, Vladimer Ducasse, Kyle Wilson all ring a bell.
A moron of a head coach who can't shut his mouth. A front office that made the dumbest move going after Tebow.
The Jets need someone who can turn them around instantly and I'm sure every smart candidate knows this is going to take a couple years because they most certainly need to start over at QB and most likely all want to hire their own Head Coach.

Reason: Edit: They also gave Sanchez a huge extension after a subpar year. 18 million tied to him

Wilkerson is actually a beast. And Wilson has turned it around. He's not a slot CB but he played well on the outside this year.
The issue is at qb. I don't even want to hear that they have no weapons. Thats ********. They have weapons. Their qb is just awful. Possibly the worst in the league. That's the problem.
And bc of that abortion of a contract they gave him, they're stuck with him for another year. If they were just able to clean up the qb position they'd actually be a good team next year. But they still have Sanchez.

GMs go into positions understanding that they have a lot of work ahead of them and have to rebuild. That's why the position was open to begin with. Rebuilding isn't the reason no one wants the job. Rex Ryan is the reason why no one wants the job.

Rex Ryan, an owner far more concerned with making headlines than winning games, a town with brutal media scrutiny....
It's a very lousy spot to be in.

It's gotten so bad that coaches that were employed by the Jets all jumped ship for lateral positions the second they got a chance. Think about that.
You're not getting any coaches who have options. You can't even give away the GM position. It's just a nightmare right now.
|
Maybe there will be a surprise firing of Ryan? Like the Chargers with Schottenheimer or the Titans with Fisher. Neither team could keep or hire good assistants. If the Jets can't get anyone maybe they just do the total rebuild right away. Right now i feel like they're just delaying the inevitable but thats JMO.

Indeed, Wilkerson is far from a bust.

I still think who ever lands this GM job, will want their own head coach and I think, with all the trouble Woody Johnson is having getting a quality GM, his mind might be changing towards giving him the power to make the call on Rex Ryan.
Not saying it's definately going to happen, but a lot of things change. See Jeff Fisher in Tennessee and Schoetenheimer in San Diego.

I don't think Rex Ryan is scring away too many candidates.
I think their issue with getting a GM is that their cap situation is ******* atrocious. They're starting the offseason $25 million in the hole. That's just an amazing mess to be cleaned up. They're going to be letting good FAs walk and will be cutting decent players. No matter what the GM does, the NY/NJ fans are going to tear him to shreds. Players that leave out of necessity are going to have success next year in other cities, which will keep the media/fans foaming at the mouth for at least next offseason, too. There's going to be a huge contingent bent on the new GMs firing after just one year, despite him walking into a rebuilding situation.

Reportedly, Arians had Ken Whisenhunt already lined up to be his OC in Chicago and Russ Grimm at OL coach.
That would have been a strong start to an offensive staff.

Stoked about Whisenhunt joining the Chargers staff. McCoy wants to be more of an organizer and overseer, getting an experienced play caller like Whiz takes a ton off of his plate. Pagano will be kept on the defensive side so it looks like full speed ahead and on to the Senior Bowl. Overall Spanos did a nice job being aggressive and getting all of his top choices in the building. Charger fans would have been happy with anything new, but I really believe this is a solid foundation.

Out of all the hires, I really like McCoy. He just seems like a 'big picture' guy. You need those type of guys to be successful long-term.
And did I just read right that Norv Turner is the new OC for the Broncos?

I think you misread it. Norv is in Cleveland. Denver promoted their QB coach to OC.

The defensive assistants other than Hoke weren't very notable or important. One was Lovie's son. Another was a LB coach who only had a job because of a huge favor he did for Lovie when the aforementioned son was expelled from college. The Bears DL is strong, but the coach for them was new and Marinelli handled the line, anyway.
I think the only reason they were kept around so long was because Marinelli may have wanted them if he were a smart man and stayed.
Hoke is the key, though. That's a legit good coach and may even end up being DC. Whether that's good or bad, no one knows. New coordinators are new coordinators.

The #Cardinals have offered their head coaching job to Bruce Arians, I'm told. He is expected to accept.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
#Cardinals met with Bruce Arians today. He left with a great feeling. He was rewarded with an offer. Source says he'll be the team's HC.

It's pretty much official
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
The final details of the contract for Bruce Arians and #Cardinals are being worked out. Not talking money, I'm told. So it's almost done.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Bruce Arians has accepted four-year deal, with a team option for a fifth year, as head coach with Arizona Cardinals.

So both Todd Grantham and Kirby Smart are going to interview for the Eagles DC position. Looks like they are definitely going to make the move to the 3-4.

Please let this happen!
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora
Bruce Arians has agreed to a contract to coach the Cardinals. Could end up bringing Todd Bowles as his DC if Eagles let him go

I've heard Tom Moore & Ray Horton as OC/DC
he mentioned both in his press conference earlier so maybe that's where the rumors is coming from
