Arizona lets go of their LB, DB, and DL coach, while their ST coach went to San Diego.

Last major coaching carousel, back in 2009, there were lots of defensive minded head coaches that came in place (spagnuolo, Schwartz, Caldwell, Ryan, Morris, singletary, I think Mangini is a defensive mind.) these things come in waves, next major carousel (3-4 years) i honestly expect a lot of defensive coaches come in. The minority issue might still be an issue, but it will improve over time.
Dunno if mora is a defensive mind, but that's 7 of 11 on defense that year.

And of that list, they go fired, should have been fired, fired, should have been fired, fired, fired, (yes, Mangini is a defensive coach) fired and (yes, Mora is a defensive coach) fired.
In 3 years.

I still think Schwartz is a quality coach. I think he's a Grade-A douchenozzle, but I think he's a quality coach.

That team is out of control and he seems to have no intention of reigning them in. They've got a bunch of dirty thugs there and he encourages that kind of behavior.

On second thought, you're probably right. I was letting my preconceived thoughts cloud my thinking. I thought he'd be great for several years before he was hired.
I was probably wrong.

I think it's reaching the point where the players basically have power over the coach. If that's true, Schwartz is not finishing next year.

And for the offensive coaches there, Josh McDaniels, Tom Cable, Todd Haley. None survived the 3 years either.
Rex Ryan probably had the most successful NFL career of that year's hirings, and I'm not sure Jets fans want him.
2011 was a bit more balanced with the O/D head coach split (5-3 offense/defense split), and of those 8, 2 offensive minds (Shurmur and Hue Jackson) got axed, Garrett, Rivera, and Munchak won't survive another bad year, and Fox, Harbaugh and Frazier were playoff-bound this year.
Point being that offensive and defensive specialists come in cycles. I predict that by 2015/2016, there will be a rush of defensive minded head coaching hires for the lousy teams of the era.

Schwartz took the Lions to the playoffs, he deserve a pass for a year or two. He gets handed these players by the GM. I put more blame on Martin Mayhew than I do Schwartz.

This "put all the blame on Schwartz" is hilarious to me. People are really driving this media created narrative into the ground. The head coach of a professional football team is not supposed to be a babysitter. The Lions "discipline problem" is that they need to better evaluate the character of the players they draft, and that's mostly on Mayhew (who I still think is a decent GM).

The Lions team is much like the 2005/2006 Bengals when idiots like Ocho and Odell Thurman did what they wanted. It took TOO LONG but Marvin Lewis finally did remove all the bad attitudes and take back control of the ship. Shwartz needs to do the same.

Glorified QB coach. Chip Kelly will still handle the gameplan/playcalling on offense. Who ever they get at Defensive Coordinator will be much more important.
