Just curious, what would you call him? I think Freeney had the capability to defend the run, but he was never coached to do so. He basically rushed the passer on every down.

I'm new here but I have followed the draft for years. I've never had time to join any of the boards I read until now. I really like this guy. His lack of explosiveness for a DE is his only flaw. I would really like to see this guy put on 10-15 pounds and play a 5tech much like Justin Smith. He wouldn't need to be as explosive and his strenghts of hand use, leverage and power would be highlighted. Before anyone says no way remember Justin Smith was a 267 pound rookie way back when.

You really joined this board only because of Catapano??
Have you ever actually seen him play??
He's an intriguing prospect, but other than friends of his I don't get the love for a guy most of us know nothing about.

I heard Catapano was useless today.
So much for his draft stock improving.

If a player is in on run downs, then I would just call them a defensive end. Pass rush specialist are the guys that come in on 3rd down only.

I joined to talk football. I didn't join for one player. Why would anyone join a forum to talk about a late round prospect?
I have seen one game and youtube videos because someone from another forum had turned me onto him with how he talked about him. I said I liked him I didn't say I thoroughly scouted the player for his entire career. Get off my back. Many many posters on forums just like this one fall in love or hate players after 1 game and act like they are some NFL scout who knows everything about that player. I'm saying I like a late round flyer thats it. Again get off my back.
Geez friendly board this has turned out to be.

A scout told me the hard days of practice for the East were tuesday and wednesday....they are just doing walk thru stuff today and friday. How can you be useless in a walk thru practice?

They are only in helmets today man. So not sure where you are getting info...but I have spoken to a few people who are there and are involved with NFL teams and they have ALL said Catapano has clearly been one of the best players in practice this week and has moved WAY up in his draft stock for sure and is showing the ability to be an NFL Starter. Much in line with this Boston Globe interview of Russ Lande. Kid is the real deal. Between him and David Bass they had 23.5 sacks this season! The West team really has their work cut out for them keeping these two predators away from their QB. If their QBs drop back a lot look for these two guys to be VERY disruptive...ESPECIALLY if they are both on the field at the same time.

Hang in there. There is a certain amount of hazing that goes on in here when someone sees a newbie show up. If it gets to you just tell them to go #### themselves.

All I know is that a lot of NFL teams are taking him off their boards. Some sort of attitude problem.

I see you're using that old reverse phsycology to see if you can get him in a Green Bay uniform. Let me know if it works i'd like to see him in Seattle.

Well, College Fan, at least his write up from the East-West Shrine game has been really positive with 4th round suggestions. Thanks for putting him into our sights. Now if he can only play lights out on game day!

There wasn't much about him out here before I made this post, and I know the kid is damn good. Seen him just destroy people all year. Rock solid mental make up to go with all the physical tools. Small school guys are easily overlooked. Glad to see him doing well like I figured he would. I look forward to the game as well. =)

Mike would probably be a good fit in Seattle with Clemons having ACL repair but for selfish reasons I hope he gets drafted by a NY team (so I can go to all the home games).... Props...BIG Props to Mike for making the most of his opportunities so far. Just read this from SB Nation and National Football Post that some are predicting as high as a 3rd round selection. Great news big man. Quite a jump from a week ago. I look forward to watching the game

by the time the draft rolls around the legend of Mike Catapano will be Keith Elias + Jared Allen multiplied by Lattimer from the Program. And I can't wait for that.

Russ Lande on his breakout players from the East West Shrine game:
1. Mike Catapano, DE, Princeton (6033, 270 and 4.85): After dominating the Ivy League, Catapano came to Tampa needing to prove he could be as productive against better competition and he definitely did that. Quick off the ball, Catapano displayed strong and aggressive use of hands to jolt and defeat pass blocks with surprising ease. Able to consistently beat the offensive tackle around the corner and inside allowed him to regularly pressure the quarterback in every drill. Not only productive rushing the passer, his ability to defeat run blocks allowed him to make plays against the run at him and away. His strong week of practice has put Catapano in position to be a third round pick if he continues to perform well the rest of the spring.

I don't know what that was all about...I just came across the conversation. But welcome to this board. There are a lot of cool people here. I think the person hazing you may have gotten you confused with the person who started this link, who did join this board to talk about his friend, Mike Catapano.
Don't get discouraged...we have a lot of fun here and there is a lot of great discussion. Who is your team?

In this thread: a bunch of brand new accounts created by Mike Catapano's agent having themselves a nice little circle jerk. "I just had to join because Mike Catapano is soooo dreamy!"
Jokes on you, sucka. NFL teams don't listen to us. Building hype here won't do too much.

West won...Devin Taylor had 2 sacks for the East and had a good game. Catapano got several pressures but no sacks, had 3 tackles and a batted pass. Had a solid game overall. Taylor and Catapano looked good....Bass not as good, especially against the run, as those two. East Offense looked pretty laim. Ray Graham showed flashes of talent though. For the West I thought Christine Michael really impressed at RB. West defensive backs looked pretty good...watched the game live and didn't catch names, but the West had a couple nice picks....East QBs left a lot to be desired.

No I'm not his agent sir, just someone who likes football (high school, college and pro) and likes to follow the draft each year. I'm not Catapano's family member either, just a guy from the area where he lives who has followed him since high school and thinks he will be a good NFL player. Glad to see the experts who were in Florida this past week have agreed. Since Catapano wasn't mentioned on the boards at all and I knew how good he was I just figured I'd bring him up.
Kid is a hard worker. I know a lot of people who know him and he is looked at in very high regard by all. Its nice to see hard working people succeed. He was a good high school player and has transformed into an elite college player who is about to be drafted. I wish Mike the best in his future endeavors and look forward to watching him represent long island in the NFL.
Certainly meant no disrespect to the boards here fellas. Just bringing up a good player many weren't yet familiar with is all. I think you'll see good things from this kid in the future.

Catapano has a long way to go as far as the NFL is concerned IMO.
For most of the first quarter he was lined up over the TE and being blocked cleanly for the most part. He looks alright heading upfield, but when he had to turn and pursue he looked sluggish to me.
I felt the speed of the game was overwhelming to Catapano at times.
This is a huge jump up in competition for him and he's going to have to make major adjustments to his game to stick at the next level.
I just have a hard time seeing a 1AA player from the Ivys being drafted before the 5th-6th round, unless he blows up at the combine.
