For the love of God Spags. Come back home.

You had your fun. You dated the stripper. You learned some hard lessons along the way.

But it's time to come home. Come home Spags. Come home. There's a warm meal and a cozy bed waiting for you.

Romeo Crennel?

What other 3-4 minds besides Crennel are out there as possible D-coordinator hires?

They had the worst defense in NFL history. So I guess we can say they didn't have the personnel for a 4-3 either.

That's how I see it.

The Giants are 5 mil over the cap. Will Beatty, Martellus Bennett, Lawrence Tynes, Kevin Booth, and Kenny Phillips don't have contracts.

Stevie Brown's gonna get a second round tender. Victor Cruz'll get a first. They'll take up about 5 million alone.

Osi and Hixon will probably not even be negotiated with.

There's "creative cap work" and there's "impossible."

Might be able to talk Mangini out of ESPN, Chip Kelly has been said to really like Todd Grantham from Georgia and hes been a DC in the NFL...so if Chip doesn't get him maybe he would think about NO.

Romeo Crennel would be a great pick up for the Saints. He isn't cut out to be a HC but he is one hell of a DC.

That sounds about right.

I'm guessing the reason for the move is Payton could not stand PAT with the worst statistical Yardage-wise Defense in NFL history and not make changes, we've been a lackluster Defense in a 4-3 system for most of his years here lets change up philosophies; and I do believe it is a bit easier to manufacture a Pass Rush from a 3-4 alignment even if you don't have amazing Pass Rush talent due to being able to disguise, blitzes and stunts better.

Not really. Eli, Snee and Canty can free up a lot of money by re-structuring. If Tuck's back so can he. Corey Webster has a 7 million dollar salary he won't see next year and I'm hoping someone offers Brown a contract, I'd gladly give him up for a second rounder. Add Boley likely being Cut and the Giants actually have plenty of money to resign black unicorn, Beatty, Cruz, Kenny and Tynes. Granted adding Revis after that would be tough, but not impossible.

If the Saints had a 2nd round pick i'd really like the switch. Getting someone like Jarvis Jones or Barkevious Mingo in the 1st and then John Jenkins or Brandon Williams in the 2nd would've been perfect in helping them make the transition.

It's not like what they had was working. They can't really get much worse. If they're going to make a change, this is the time to do it.

Might be a pipe dream but I believe there's a slight possibility we might get our 2nd round pick back. I believe the NFL stated, they would review the possibility of restoring our 2nd rounder if the Organization followed guidelines, and did not violate the terms of their suspension. Well everyone was fully compliant with the suspensions, and Payton was even re-instated before the Super Bowl so my hope is the league can give us that pick back.

Even if they didn't they could look into trading back in round 1 and getting a 2nd as well if there is someone who wants to. They would be able to look at getting one of the nose tackles and find a pass rusher or corner in the second.

Add Boley likely being Cut and the Giants actually have plenty of money to resign black unicorn, Beatty, Cruz, Kenny and Tynes. Granted adding Revis after that would be tough, but not impossible.
I really don't think this is going to work.

Just now, saw the newest report. Turns out you guys are actually 9.15 mil over the cap.

So, let's run down what we can do...

Starting point: -9.15m

Cut Corey Webster, 9.845m cap - 2.595m dead money = 7.25m saved, new cap -1.9

Cut Michael Boley, 5.9m cap -1.4m dead money = 4.5m saved, new cap 2.6m

Ok, now we're at least under the cap. Now onto clearing up room to re-sign some people, sign draft picks, and pay Revis.

Eli's 2013 base salary is 13m. The rest of his cap is the original signing bonus and the additional signing bonus from his last restructure. If we convert 12m of that 2013 base in a signing bonus that spreads it out over the remaining three years of the contract, including this year, it'll free up 8 million. You're screwed again next year when his new cap number will be 24.4m, which is like 1/5 of the salary cap, but hey...whatever; we needz Revis! New total cap space of 10.6m

Chris Snee makes a base of 6.2m next season. Restructure 5.2m of it over the remaining two years, save 2.6m. New cap space of 12.2m.

Canty has a base of 6.25m. Restructure 5.25m of it over the two remaining years of the contract, save 2.62m. New cap space of 14.82m.

Well, that's the most we can squeeze out of those three because we need to keep their base salary above their vet minimums. We took them to within mere thousands of it. So we have 14.82m now. Just looking at it we know we need more. The next obvious place to look is Justin Tuck. Can't restructure, since he's on the last year of his deal. We could extend him, but that's a huge risk with the way his play has been over the past two years and pretty much destroys us cap-wise in 2014. So we cut Tuck. 5.65m - 1.65m dead money = 4m savings. New cap is 18.82m. Obviously need more.

Antrel Rolle has a 7m base salary with two years left. A restructure here saves 3m if we spread 6m over his two remaining years. 21.82m. Still not looking good, but let's get to work.

Right off the bat, we know we're going to need about 6m to sign draft picks. That puts us down at 15.82m.

Who are the departing free agents? Will Betty, Lawrence Tynes, Martelius Bennett, Kevin Booth, Dominik Hixon, Kenny Phillips, Victor Cruz, Andre Brown, Stevie Brown, Osi Umenyiora, Travis Beckum, Bruce Johnson, Brian Witherspoon, Shaun Rogers, Ryan Torain, David Carr, Ramses Barden, Rocky Bernard, Kregg Lumpkin, Sean Locklear, Keith Rivers, Justin Tryon, Bear Pascoe, and Chase Blackburn. Phew. That's a lot. Time to prioritize.

Obviously, priority number one needs to be Will Beatty. Let's say not everyone is sold on him and we get a hometown discount. First year cap hit is still going to be at least 5.5m...and that's a lowball. New cap is 10.32m

Next on the list are the two RFAs, because they're cheap. Cruz gets a first round tender. That's 2.88m. He'll probably be signed away because a first for Cruz is a good deal, but let's assume everyone loves the Giants and leaves him in NY. Miraculously, he doesn't hold out and plays. New cap is 7.44m

Stevie Brown we give a second round tender. If we give him less, he walks and we only get a seventh rounder back from whoever takes him. That would suck, since he performed pretty damned admirably. With the price being a second, he probably doesn't go anywhere. So his tender is 2.02m. New cap is 5.42m.

Next, I guess we go for Bennett. Well, that's going to take just about the rest of it because we're going to have to outbid someone for him.

Now we're out of cap room. Kevin Booth walks. Tynes walks. Hixon walks. Phillips walks. All those other guys walk. Terrell Thomas better get back soon, because you can't live without him and he literally costs more to cut than he does to keep. I hope he's 100%!

Sorry, we can't afford to take Revis even if he agrees to work for the league minimum. Not that it matters. We need to keep the draft picks to fill out the rest of the starting 22.

New team needs:
-starting LG
-starting CB
-#3 CB
-starting LE
-starting WLB
-starting K
-backup WLB
-backup SS
-backup TE
-backup DE
-backup QB
-#3 RB
-WR depth
-another guy in the DT rotation

Even without getting Revis, with cutting guys who make too much, and with restructuring everyone who makes more than a nickel...we need five new starters in the draft. The bigger problem? We won't even meet the roster minimums and don't have enough money to sign the guys to get us there, even if they all make the minimum. The biggest problem? The problem is exponentially worse because we restructured so many people, which just sells out the next 2-3 years in favor of this one. The NFL doesn't work like the US...if you don't balance your budget, someone's going to come in and do it for you, which is basically taking a battleaxe to the roster. The league office starts voiding contracts for you, beginning with the most recent one signed and going back from there until you're good. That means the players you wanted most recently become free agents.

No, some of the guys you want to re-sign are going to walk. Some of the guys you want to restructure, too, I think. You have a zero percent chance of getting Revis, too. Welcome to salary cap hell. It only gets worse next year if you look at some of these contracts: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-giants/

It's not as bad as the Jets, but it's ain't good, either.

I think the idea is that our most talented front 7 guys probably fit better in a 3-4 (martez, cam, hicks)
