Deandre Hopkins is a pretty decent deep threat guy.

How is Cordarrelle Patterson not in this discussion?

He is the #1 guy in terms of a receiver you can just throw it up deep and he can go get it with speed.

Goodwin has the speed but has no where near the size Patterson has, and Hopkins comes to mind as well as a tough player that can stretch a defense. Also like others have said King from Georgia is a decent threat, but still Patterson has to be #1 I feel.

Oh and cannot sleep on Da'Rick Rogers at all, and if Justin Hunter would never have been injured he would be the #1 deep threat target but he seems to have lost a step since the injury. Still would be a hell of a pickup late 1st round for anyone.

He specified a pure deep threat who can basically just sprint downfield on fades and skinny posts and do nothing else. He's looking at later round guys (guessing he's thinking about the Bears fourth round pick here), not someone who's going to be picked before the Bears even get a chance in the first, lol. Patterson's out of the discussion because he's way too good; he's a real receiver.

Still think it'd be a waste, since the kind of receiver he's talking about ends up sucking in the NFL 99% of the time and the Bears already have their patron saint (Hester).

So a Randy Moss type, there are none of those, Justin Hunter if you are talking a player that goes off speed and leaping ability instead of toughness over the middle and making you miss in the open field. More straight line I guess, Patterson does have a lot of make you miss after the catch in him where Moss was go get it and score.

But there are not any Randy Moss players in this draft, one could argue he was the most physically gifted receiver to ever play the game, so there rarely are players like him. And no not many can just rely on running and jumping to get by, most have to run routes and be a complete receiver like you said.

Still in the concept term deep speed receiver I would still go Patterson.

...no, not a Randy Moss type. That's just a terrible interpretation of that.

Moss was an excellent route runner with fantastic hands who could use his body to wall off defenders and could jump a mile. Randy Moss was a complete receiver. He didn't just take off down the field and win solely on speed. That's like calling Calvin Johnson a pure deep threat just because he's fast.

He specifically said guys who can basically run one route. He's talking about Devin Hester, early Brandon Lloyd, or Willie Gault aka guys who are fast but generally suck at playing receiver. It's the kind of guy who will never, ever, ever, ever, ever be considered a top wideout. Think of DeSean Jackson, but make his route running even worse. He said Johnny Knox. That's a guy who can run fast, but can't jump, has bad hands, and falls down when he has to make a cut. It's the anti-Moss.

Patterson and Moss are deep threats, but they're complete receivers; they're not pure deep threats. Coradelle is a lock for the top 15. He's someone the Bears have no chance at unless they sell-out for this year and let the defense fall apart next offseason.

Pretty sure Emery never said he wanted a bad football player who can run fast.

You just posted this:

My comment was in response to you implying that Emery doesn't want a complete WR.

I never implied that. If Emery had said that, I'd be marching on Halas Hall with my pitchfork and torch right now.

The original poster who posed the question was looking for that, not Emery. I think both you and Ozzy read the title and skipped everything else he said, lol.

Randy Moss is sooo overrated as a route runner. But to be honest he didn't have to be a great route runner, which is probably he never ran a full repertoire of routes in most games.

His deep threat opened up all the underneath/comeback catches he made. And I still don't see Moss as a guy who worked the middle of the field with any regularity.

Here's one. I remember the Illini were in on him and could have gotten him. I always really like Boyd. To the OP, not sure if he fits in your category but Quinton Patton would be a great pickup for the Bears IMO...but I would guess it's not going to work out like that and he becomes another Greg Jennings for GB.

I think Markus Wheaton is a good option. He has excellent speed and can adjust well on balls in the air. He is also nice after the catch and can run some routes, so he isn't totally one dimensional. I think he probably has better hands than Goodwin and is certainly the better overall player.
