This isnt the Vikes wanting to trade him, this is Percy demanding to be traded. If you cant get along with Leslie Frazier, who can you get a long with?

And I'll pretty much guarantee that the Vikes WRs will be completely different next season. With the exception of Jarius Wright. Simpson, Jenkins, Aromashodu, are all free agents and arent expected to resign.

Agreed. Harvin is a scary investment. Super talented and potentially a take the next step addition for a good team. But it's scary to give up picks and or money for him.

there were reports that Bill was going to select Percy in that draft, right before the Vikings took him a pick or two ahead. Apparently, Bill was infatuated with Percy. He is the perfect fit in our offense. However, it would surprise me if we traded for him. Here is the thing: Do the Patriots want to give up an asset AND give him a contract? I'm not so sure....

Yup. That's where that asset becomes a lower pick than what he's worth on the field.

Unless we get a full blown 15 team auction which is also possible.

We've had a pathetic WR corps for 3 years. You can try to discount Sidney Rice by calling him great sarcastically but he was a good player for us. Before that and after Moss/Carter we had a bad stretch, but before that we had, well Moss and Carter.

I said for the majority of my lifetime we've been fine at receiver. Not currently. The majority of my lifetime. That's a fact. Why are you so upset about that?

This isn't even relevant to the thread so I'll let you guys get back on topic.

LOL, early 90's? I guess you took the "no history" pretty literally. I guess the Vikings have a history of drafting quality QB's in the 3rd round due to the 1961 NFL draft and their selection of Fran Tarkenton.

Ehhh...I obviously watched a lot of Brett Favre, and he really did make a lot of receivers look better than they were. This guy is a prime example:

http://www.pro-football-reference.co...S/SchrBi00.htm

Antonio Freeman is a less extreme example. Without Favre, he's Mario Manningham. You could do worse, but you could do better.

There are a lot of other guys. I have no problem believing that Favre "made" Sidney Rice.

This ties in with my broader hypothesis that Quarterbacks can "make" WRs, but the opposite isn't true. That's a topic for another thread...

Sidney Rice was pretty freaking awesome last year so while I think Favre maximized his potential and gave him a huge confidence boost, Rice is a good player in his own right.

Just way too injury prone. Last year he was awesome. Really good production considering half of the yr he was in a stupid conservative offense and still found the end zone.

rice was pure **** for the vikings before favre....he was like the 4th WR and on the roster bubble until favre fell in love with him. before that he was good for running down the sideline for a TD 2-3 times a year. Favre absoultely gave him a ridiculous boost in confidence in the pro game and turned him into a player.

favre made rice a lot of money because he could catch his bullet passes and jump up in the air for some of his floaters

People act like Rice was a seasoned veteran when Favre got here. It was his third year in the league. WR's taking time to develop is not anything new. He had a solid season this year with a QB that likes to spread the ball around and in an offense that likes to run the ball. He's a good player who gets hurt a lot.

Edit-Rice was never on the roster bubble....don't know where you heard that.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Harvin, he is a great player when he is on the field but that is pretty rare and he is a nightmare off it if basically anything you hear about him is to be believed.

I'd probably start considering it anywhere inside the first half of the 3rd round and up but obviously would be hoping for a bit more. Reality is that he seems to be 99% gone as a Viking so we may as well get something for him now. Can't see us winning a SB any time soon anyway and really WR isn't a great need when you look at all our other needs, starting with a QB who can actually get them he pill.

WR can take their QBs to another level of performance. The way Green makes Dalton able to do things he wouldn't be able to with a normal receiving corps. Or how megatron elevated Stafford into a top 10 QB last year, or Fitz reviving Kurt Warner's career, and AJ has been making Schaub look legit for years. A truly great WR can make a QB, not as easily as QB can make a WR but truly great receivers do exactly that.

Minnesota Vikings Sign WR Bernard Berrian to a Six-Year Deal

So sayeth Fox Sports' Jay Glazer:
The Vikings have come to terms on a six-year deal with Bernard Berrian, sources have told FOXSports.com. The worth of the deal is not yet known.

Berrian was considered the No. 2 receiver on the open market behind Randy Moss. The Chicago Bears wanted to retain Berrian, who was the team's deep threat. But in the end, the deal Minnesota offered was too good to pass up.

Pacifist Viking should be pretty pleased with this one. Heck, I'm even starting to come around on it a little bit myself.

More on this from me tomorrow. . .until then, feel free to discuss!
