I suppose I kind of think of him along the lines of Chris Johnson - uniquely talented and certainly dangerous, but not always reliable. AP > Chris Johnson :: Calvin Johnson > Percy Harvin.

Percy is a great player, no doubt. But the reality is that the Vikes wouldn't be interested in trading him if he wasn't a major headache (get it?!). His attitude, potential health issues, etc. clearly make him worth less than his on-field impact suggests. Is he "worth" a first rounder? Probably, but his market value isn't going to be that. I say the highest they get would be a 2nd, maybe another mid-to-late rounder tacked on if it's a late 2nd. I seriously doubt the Chiefs, even though they are WR hungry, would pull the trigger. Chilly and Reid are good friends (he may even join KC's staff) and he has first-hand experience with the prima donna attitude.
Everyone always seems to be on their best behavior for Belichick and he's looking for a replacement in the slot, seems like a match made in heaven if they are willing to pay the guy.

Think about how many 1st rd draft picks turn into busts.
And how many turn into better than Harvin is.
He's Pro Bowl quality, and not old. New money will please the dude. Let him smoke all the weed he wants.

He's never going to fetch a 1st rounder, you guys aren't taking everything into consideration.

He's a good slot receiver. He's not a top 5 wideout who has changed the way the position is played or anything. He's not even the best slot receiver in the league.

Very true, but not many players on the field today, have changed the way their position is played. Also true that Harvin is not a Real #1 receiver, but can do more for a team than catch dump-offs over the middle. The "best" is a title which is debated on the internet for every position, with ebbs and flows from year to year. I suppose it's in the eye of the beholder, ending up with the contract a team awards a player. Tampa Bay giving 30 yr. old Vincent Jackson a 5 yr. - 55.5 million dollar contract was interesting, along with Pierre Garçon, who signed a five-year $42.5 million, $20.5 million guaranteed with the Redskins, but in the end, their call, their money.

“[Harvin] is a star player in our league, but I would imagine that he sees himself in the class of the top wide receivers in our league,” the source said. “I do know at his production, when he was healthy, he was producing along with Larry and Calvin and those guys. I could see Harvin’s agent making the argument that he deserves their type of pay.”
This smells like total BS. So a Vikings insider made anonymous comments that would only serve to hurt his team's chances of dealing Harvin? Sure.

If Percy is so miserable playing for Ponder/Frazier, he better hope more false stories not come out like this one. I suppose fans should not put much stock in Harvins wants or needs till it comes from Percy himself, or his agent. Kind of reminds me of the Steelers/Mike Wallace saga of a year ago, and just might end up the same. If no deal gets done, play for the team one year, leave via FA the next. This might be why GM Rick might want to move him now.

Already debunked, then . . . awesome.

An AFC personnel executive "guesses" the Vikings could get a second- or third-round pick, along with another selection to "sweeten the pot."
CBS reports Percy's "debates" have been over the situation of his teams passing game. His head coach and GM are locked-in with Ponder at QB, that won't change. Would more quality WR's added to their roster make a difference in Percy's head and attitude? In addition, are Vikings willing to re-do his contract, when, and would Percy hold-out if contract isn't addressed? Mike Wallace is said to be seeking $10-11 million annually, while Jennings could come in around $8-9 million per year. Looking at those two, what kind of money should Harvin look at per year? It will be interesting at the upcoming combine, when all the teams are in attendance. Their GM should get somewhat of an idea of interest for Percy.

yet when a rb does the same thing and gets over 600 yards receiving its considered great, why the double standard. Btw, since the rise of the slot receiver teams no longer use just linebackers to cover them, they throw all kinds of coverages at them, bracket coverage, safties, nickelbacks, even putting the number 1 corner on them at times, like when Revis covered Welker. Getting yards after the catch is a special talent and Percy can do that. The only reason why he isn't worth all of those picks is because of his injury issues. What terrible receivers were on pace for 100+ catches? Guys like Dexter McCluster can't do that, and they play with bad qbs and get the same kind of passes, and don't even get the harder matchups like a Harvin or a Welker. I would put Cobb close to that level and Hawkins might get to it as well.

I still don't get how they got that - and then Seattle is reportedly going to pay him 12mil/yr

Let's think of it as a trade up scenario. While I don't like or think the draft value chart is entirely accurate, the fact is that trades generally tend to be close to it.
1. The 25th pick: 720
2. The early 7th: 10
3. Mid 20s 2014 3rd rd: 150 -- that's actually 2013 3rd round value. So it's undoubtedly MUCH lower.
So what would that 880 net according to value? Trading up from 25 to 19-20.
Obviously the salary is a different concern. But Seattle is able to get a guy who hasn't reached his athletic prime without having to fend for him on the open market. We are able to extend this year and manage his cap value in a way where he may never see the remaining dollars. We're giving him a raise from his $4 million today, and will easily frontload the guaranteed money so that releasing him later, if it comes to that, will be easy and painless.
Harvin is worth moving up 6 spots in the draft for. Especially at the tail end.
Seattle has had an excellent track record at assuming other teams' attitude problems and having them not be an issue. That was even before the team began to win. So I'm not terribly concerned about Harvin's history as a malcontent. I'm not even convinced that if he does end up being a serious problem, that Seattle would bat an eye at outright releasing him despite having guaranteed dead money. This team marches to a different drummer that is for certain. Conventional truths don't necessarily apply.
