Not surprising. The Jets will actually have a lot more money to play with than people think. They'll restructure guys and they'll have a couple of bucks to play with. Nothing significant, but it's not going to be the cap hell it's made out to be.

According to most reports they've already saved about $30 million in cap space with these moves today.

Jeez, those 3 players alone were worth 30 million?!
That's the football equivalent of the Dark Knight scene where Joker burns a pile of money for no reason.

Add Jason Smith. He was due a $12 million roster bonus per his restructured contract with the Rams.
Jets traded for him for Wayne Hunter during the season with the expectation of releasing him prior to the bonus.
So a good chunk of the savings was a bonus that was never going to be taken.

So the only real financial mistake Tanny made was the Sanchez extension. Granted, it was a gigantic mistake, but he had the rest of the cap under control.
Unless I'm missing something.

That and he hasn't drafted a player worth their weight in ****. But you could put that blame elsewhere.

He's made some decent draft picks. Wilkerson is a very good player. Coples, the book is out but he has promise, he flashed. Kyle Wilson grew into his own last year, his problem was he often traded away draft picks to move up and around in the draft and never built depth bc of that.
That and he wasn't great at making picks after round 3, but let's be honest, most GMs aren't.

The Chiefs released Steve Breaston and Kevin Boss. Not shocked by either. Called them both months ago.

I dunno man, but I hope so. How many can one person get before they call it quits? I don't want him to have long term issues because of this.

Don't get me wrong it was time to move on from Breaston but I kinda feel like he got a raw deal in KC.

I agree no reason he couldn't at the very least have been a solid #3, thought he was going to be a great #2 to Bowe like he was in AZ for Fitz

Could be a cap casualty. I give every offensive skill position player on KC a pass bc they had Matt Cassel throwing them the ball.

Not really. He definitely didn't have it under control, lol. They're still in a cap nightmare. They're only like 6 mil under now. If the Sanchez deal never happened, it'd still be grim. Look at the guys who are all free agents now:
2012 Starters:
LG Slauson
RG Moore
RT Howard
TE Moore
FB Hilliard
RB Greene
DE DeVito
S Landry
S Bell
WLB Scott
OLB Pace
OLB Thomas
K Folk
Primary backups:
WR3 Schillens
TE2 Cumberland
S3 Smith
OT Smith (Mostly used as a TE in jumbo)
That's 13 starters and 4 primary backups.

Me neither. If his knee stays healthy, he should be a solid WR and return guy(if put in that spot) for the team. Draft a WR and we could be ready.

honestly hes a downfield threat enough to replace wallace, who pretty much replaced nate washington
Brown/Sanders/Cotchery/Breaston and then draft either allen/patterson in 1 or Terrence Williams in 2 and thats a solid lineup. Unspectacular as the rookie develops, but solid.
This team won with ward, el, cedric wilson....yuck. I imagine brown and sanders will both be better next year

Good fit, and Haley loves him. I wish we had even adequate QB play here, because I was a fan of his.. but, what can ya do.

The Chiefs coaching staff/FO didn't even let Breaston play this year. RAC gave some BS excuse about him not knowing the offense. He was a Haley guy and paid the price for it.
He isn't great by any means but was better than any other WR not named Bowe on the roster.
