NFL wants to blue ball us
The NFL is looking to push back the start of all the major offseason events. They want to move the combine to early March, free agency to early April, and the draft to early May. The reason is more money as always.

More time for teams to evaluate prospects is probably good.
Also, I strongly approve of this:

The NFL also wants to expand regional combines as a feeder competition for spots at the official combine in Indianapolis.

As a Buffalo Bills fan, I'm actually conditioned for Blue Balls. So bring it on NFL!
I do beg the NFL to bring back the Weekend Draft though.

Idea of overhauled calendar is to lengthen NFL off-season and make football relevant over longer period with one big event each month.

That's pretty much the reason I would support this. It would lessen the dead time between the draft and the start of training camp a bit.

If anything, I'd move the draft up a month. I'm always excited when TC starts, but I also really like the "dead time" during the offseason. I spend far too much time following football, and the forced break is kind of nice.

This is for the 18 game schedule guys. Duh.
They want to first push back all the post season events. Then they'll add 2 games and a bye week and be like "hey look, it doesn't even interfere with the offseason!"
That's what this is about. It's all about the 18 game season. Its coming. It's a matter of when, not if.

This makes sense. I feel dumb for not making this connection.

Just say no to the new off season schedule. 16 regular season games is fine. Leave it as is.

Yes and when that day comes the NFL will have officially gone down the toilet. I've wondered for a while now if I'll become more if a casual fan and let football go a bit when the two extra games are added. The product has left a bad taste in my mouth since the mid 2000's.

You guys are silly. If they go 18 games, they'll tack 'em on at the start of the season, not the end. That's what they've always said.

What, they would essentially take the spots of the last two preseason games before the season and start in mid August? That seems weird to me.

I think there'd be one on both "ends" added. Though I agree this is setting up for the transition to an 18 game season almost perfectly. The seasons used to start the first weekend in September, the last few year its been the second more than a few of those times. Though arguing over this is a moot point, because it doesn't matter when in the schedule the extra weeks will come from.

Depending on how agents/trainers view the best timetable for Combine training, this could spread out the All-Star games as well.

Someone posted this on our site but a.reason could be that we may go for a mid September start. And the SB would be pushed for Presidents weekend which would give fans monday to recover. Helps tv networks debut new shows too because people would stay up and watch it.

I wish they would just stop messing with football. It was fine as is 6-7 years ago. The prolonged draft is annoying - the weekend draft was great. The rule changes making things easier for offenses - all that crap. There is no need to extend the season and push everything back.

That's what I have heard as well when i was reading all the ideas from a year ago on it, they would add the two games and knock off the last 2 preseason games.
I think the only players that are for the 18 game schedules are borderline NFL/practice squad players that know they will get more chances with a longer season and more players breaking down as the year goes on.
I'm not for the 18 games. Keep it at 16.

Does anyone besides government employees actually get Presidents day off?

Yeah, I don't really care about any of this. Stretching out the off-season is fine and I actually hope they go to 18 games.
