I think for the past few months that's why Videa has been saying let the process play out. Combines, interviews, more scouting reports, etc. Though there was a large group of people who widely felt the same about Matt Ryan in April, Parcells probably did too because if he felt he was anything more then what Scott said in December there is no way he passes him up.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland says he's had "numerous" conversations with impending free agent LT Jake Long.
"Jake [Long] has a decision to make, we have a decision to make. It's a very, very difficult decision, complicated negotiation," Ireland said. Ireland also wouldn't rule out using the franchise tag this season. Long made $11.2 million in 2012, and his tentative franchise number is $15.365 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Couldn't find the roto thing about Albert's being 15 mil too but yeah wonder where they got that from

"The franchise tag for the offensive lineman is projected to be worth around $9.7 million (based on a league-wide cap number of $121 million), but because Long had a cap number of $12.8 million, his franchise tag would be worth $15.36 million, a mandatory 20 percent increase over his cap number."

In 2012 Branden Albert's total cap hit was $4.192 million. His franchise tag number would be $9.7 million which is far higher than 120% of his 2012 cap number.

FROM HERE ON OUT BEFORE POSTING IN THIS THREAD YOU MUST TAKE THIS EXAM.

1 - What do you think of Geno Smith?
A) Worth No. 1
B) Not worth No. 1

In one sentence fragment or less, explain your answer in detail. Be sure to include the following criterion:

- Non-specific, subjective, relative adjectives with no context whatsoever (i.e. "elite" "great" "top-5" "solid" "good-but-not-great" "top-20-but-not-top-10")
- Meaningless comparisons to other players, preferably ones that have almost nothing in common with his playing style (i.e. Cam Newton, RGIII, Matt Ryan, etc.)
- Allusions to his success with the zone read in college (facts are optional)
- Comparisons to completely different situations that only fit your argument (Pro-Smith cite the Dolphins passing on Ryan and Anti-Smith cite the countless examples of selecting flawed QB prospects high to fill a need).

*DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVALUATE HIS FILM THIS YEAR WITH SPECIFIC ANALYSIS ABOUT HIS ARM TALENT, FOOTWOORK, MECHANICS, OR PROGRESSIONS.

BONUS for Chiefs fans: Draw a portrait of you and Geno Smith. Then draw a picture of you in 2015 pushing Geno Smith down a flight of stairs. Admire the second picture and add durability to the pro's for your personal scouting report.

2 - Is there any QB other than Geno Smith you would draft No. 1?
A) No
B) Yes

If B, how can you type with such small hands, Tyler?

3 - Do you like Mike Glennon?
A) No
B) lol no
C) I'm that one guy in this thread that keeps mentioning him as the best QB even though his film is bad and he did nothing at the Senior Bowl.

4 - Are you a doctor?
A) Yes
B) Yes (internet)
C) No
D) My roomate's best friend's dad's goldfish is

If A, B, C, or D, please diagnose Branden Albert's back.

5 - Do you think Donald Stephenson should be a factor in deciding not to draft a LT first overall?
A) No
B) I'm the guy in this thread that keeps mentioning Donald Stephenson

6 - Using your answers from questions 4 & 5, explain the pro's of drafting Luke Joeckel at No. 1. Decorate your answer with glitter to make up for the boringness of taking an offensive tackle with the first pick.

7 - Using your answer from question 6, vehemently disagree with anyone that thinks drafting the best player at No. 1 would be a wise choice.

8 - Do you know how many misfit, quasi-bust defensive linemen the Chiefs have drafted high the past few years?
A) lol

9 - So if you were a Chiefs fan, would you want yet another DL?
A) Yes. The Lions wouldn't have Calvin if they thought that way.
B) No. None of these prospects are Calvin-level. Very different circumstances.
C) Would've committed suicide by now.

10 - Rank the following players in order of potential for sustainable mediocrity:

A) Nick Foles
B) Matt Flynn
C) Alex Smith
D) Brandon Weeden

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Congratulations! You have scored a NEGATIVE ZERO! You are now stupid enough to add to this thread's stimulating discussion.

Make sure to go on as many tangents as you can to win pointless sub-arguments no one but you and your opponent are reading. Preferably painstaking one's like draft board history, cross-draft-class different situation comparisons, advanced inconsequential salary cap math, position-counting, pro-bowl counting, college statistics, and arbitrary pick values for made up trades.

Q: Is your plan more like Ron Wolf’s or Ted Thompson’s?

DORSEY: “Well, I think it is a combination. We all started under the one plan, and it has been the Ron Wolf plan. We have all grown from that plan, we have learned from that plan and that is kind of where we are today. I think that plan speaks for itself. Like I said earlier, each one of us has tweaked it to our own strengths and weaknesses.”
I thought this was interesting, during the John Dorsey presser earlier. I hadn't really thought about how impressive it is that Ron Wolf hired and mentored Ted Thompson, John Dorsey, John Schneider, and Reggie McKenzie (not to mention Ron's son Eliot, who will be a GM within a few years). We can probably figure out a fair amount about Dorsey's thought process by looking at what Wolf, Thompson, and Schneider have done in previous years.

Joeckel has the POTENTIAL to be better than Albert

Smith is already better than any QB the chiefs have on the roster.

Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that the Chiefs "appear to be the most interested team" in Alex Smith, and are "unlikely" to use the No. 1 overall draft pick on a quarterback.
It's becoming clearer and clearer by the day that Geno Smith won't be drafted first overall. "Several" head coaches and coordinators around the NFL wouldn't be surprised if the entire first round passed by without a quarterback selected. Cole also mentions the Cardinals as a potential Smith suitor, although they're trying to restructure Kevin Kolb's deal at the moment. It's expected that Smith would cost no more than a fourth-round pick.

If Reid thinks Alex Smith can at least play competently(I think you can at least give him that), a fourth rounder doesn't sound too bad. Could plug him in for at least a year and hope to have better luck with the crop next year. I see no reason for the Chiefs to not go QB first overall, but at the same time there aren't that many reasons why they should either if they can address the position in other ways.

Teams be smokescreenin' like a mofo. Anyone who believes that no QBs will go in the first probably believes that lizard people live under mountains and secretly control our minds if we don't wear enough tinfoil. Hell, if Geno Smith fell to #20, even the Bears would probably take him.

I'd love Foles or Smith here.. for the right price. We need to overhaul our QBs in the worst way.

4th or 5th for Smith or Foles, and draft a QB in the 1st (Geno) or 2nd (Tyler Wilson) to sit behind them for a year? I'd be 100% fine with that.

This is my thing. If they do get Alex Smith, and they improve slightly, are you guaranteed to get a better QB picking 15th then you will 1st this year? Or because they may pick 15th and all the good QB's will go in the top 5, next year is the year they go 3-4 DE again and get their guy in 2015? It just seems like a never ending circle to me. Getting Alex Smith isn't going to increase your chances of getting a better QB next year. More competitive, sure I'll buy that but not a franchise QB.

It was more that Parcells was stuck in in a dated philosophy where the QB didn't mean as much as it does now. The man won a Super Bowl with Jeff Hostetler for ****'s sake. And the next year, Mark Rypien won one.

Back then, OLs won games (the Giants, Redskins, Cowboys, and 49ers can attribute way more success than people account for to their OLs). They don't do much for teams anymore. It's actually pretty crazy how much that aspect of the game has changed. You used to have to have a crazy good line to go anywhere. Now teams win with some of the worst in the league.

It's likely to go the opposite direction from "change" with Dorsey, actually.

Getting Alex Smith isn't going to increase your chances of getting a better QB next year. More competitive, sure I'll buy that but not a franchise QB.
But there's also the problem of going Geno if you don't really think he's your guy. They'll be stuck with Geno for at least two, probably three years, regardless. If they don't think he's their guy, and he's proves them right, but take him to avoid the cycle you proposed, they've simply entered a new cycle where they wasted a top pick just because they felt obliged to take a quarterback.

If they think Geno is their guy to lead the franchise, then surely go for him. But if they have reservations, pursuing other options is pretty reasonable. At the least, they can trade for Alex Smith, and continue to think over Geno up until draft day while having a backup option if they ultimately decide no. Next year doesn't promise a better situation, but there is that possibility, and I simply don't think you should take someone number one overall if you don't truly believe in them.

I only want Smith or Foles if we use our 1st or 2nd to get Geno or Tyler Wilson. Otherwise I agree with you wholeheartedly. Neither guy is a franchise caliber QB that will fix the positional woe at QB in KC.

As a nonbiased person on this topic, I whole heartedly feel that if you trade for either Smith or Foles, There is .01% chance you are going QB in the 1st 3 rnds.

OTs Joeckel, Fisher and Lane Johnson are virtually the same prospect to me.

They all IMO have similar if not equal value. I would NOT trade up to get Joeckel knowing Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson are still on the board.

It'll be interesting how their draft slotting eventually plays out in April.

Man if Andy Reid manages to trade down into the top five, still select Geno Smith and pick up another 1st/2nd in the process....! Amazing.
