Start by assuming that you think Alex Smith is a top-10 QB...

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns are not the team on the verge of acquiring Alex Smith.
The Jaguars have ruled themselves out. The Browns aren't the team, either, and the Chiefs have yet to dispute their association with CBS' report. All signs continue to point to Alex Smith becoming Andy Reid's next quarterback.

The only question I have is if they acquire Alex Smith, what do you do with the #1 overall pick? I guess it has to be Joeckel at this point, unless they are getting Alex Smith for next to nothing.

The talking heads on NFLN are guessing something around a 3rd round pick. Which puts it right on the edge.

Just quit with these kind of ridiculous comments. You have no idea how someone will perform after they're drafted. If you think that a certain prospect will bust, great, but you don't know.

Wow, that would really be awful for the Chiefs if they have to cough up anything higher than a 3rd round pick for Alex Smith.
That would be downright disastrous if San Fran can somehow wrangle the #1 overall pick out of Kansas City for Alex Smith, but I could see it happening. The 49ers front office says something like "Well you'd draft a worse QB like Geno with that pick anyway and you really want our guy sooo"

Best part of the entire thread. Alex Smith for the #1 overall pick.

God damnit. Andy Reid is going to make Alex Smith look good and a certain 49er fan is going to be telling us he's a top-10 QB. This sucks.

Are you kidding me? Christ, I can't believe I just read this.
The 49ers are not getting the 1st overall pick for Alex Smith. It isn't going to happen. It will never happen.
Use some common sense.

Did someone perform some experimental surgery where they remove part of your brain and just replace it with dozens of baby bunnies? If not that is sad because that is the only way that comment is not the most asinine thing I have heard in ohhh... all 24 years of my life.

Use your imagination, guys. Alex Smith is younger than Brandon Weeden and he's slightly better at football.
If Dorsey is on acid, I could totally see him offering up the #1 pick.

If the Chiefs trade the number one overall pick for Smith, everybody should be fired. Team president, general manager, head coach, waterboy. Everybody! That would be dumber than sticking your dick in a bug zapper.

We now have Alex's trade value narrowed down to anywhere from #1 overall to a seventh rounder.

I do agree that any thing more then a 3rd is over paying. Fans need to realize won't ever get the number one overall pick for Smith. He is just not that great right now. Plus his lake of arm strength is terrible.

I don't like the Chiefs doing this at all. I read this on Twitter from someone yesterday, I forgot who, but he talked about how even though the Raiders were completely off when they tried to get JaMarcus over CJ and AD, at least they tried to get a franchise QB, even though they failed miserably, they felt he was the BPA and could carry that team.
The Chiefs on the other hand have suffered from mediocre QB play the last 30 years, and have yet to go out and try to get somebody that could change the franchise. I don't see Alex Smith taking them anywhere that a Geno Smith couldn't. If you let Albert walk, and draft Luke Joeckel, how much different are you as a team? You've let a proven top LT walk to just draft someone to take his place, who is around the same talent.
I just don't see the point of KC doing this. Alex Smith had a year and a half of solid work, but check his whole resume. You don't hire someone for a job for a year of work they did, and just forget about the first 10 years of mediocrity and embarrassment they put together, a business would never thrive that way. I may be completely wrong and somehow Alex Smith plays well in an Andy Reid offense, but I don't think it's the right direction to move. Just my personal opinion on all of this, and I think it'll come back to bite them for putting up with another mediocre QB at best.

If the Chiefs offer us the #1 overall pick for Alex, I say hold out for more. We can do better than that.
